🏆And the winner is…?

Congratulations to Raphaël Siegenthaler from Haute école d'ingénierie et d'architecture de Fribourg (HEIA-FR)!
He is the winner of the Socorex Science Merit prize for his outstanding bachelor thesis in chemistry:

"Optimisation of the TGA-GC/MS method for studying mass loss in soluble coffee at temperatures above the glass transition temperature"

Since 2017, Socorex has been committed to rewarding graduating students with a prize for their achievements at Swiss schools for laboratory professions and universities of applied sciences in the fields of life sciences and chemistry👩‍🎓

Every year, we support graduates of more than 15 schools at their diploma ceremonies, and to date, over 250 prizes have been awarded by Socorex.

We are excited to continuously invest in students bringing scientific innovations forward!

🔬 Supporting Innovation at the iGEM Competition!

We’re excited to share that we are supporting two teams in the iGEM competition this year: an annual, worldwide event, giving students the opportunity to push the boundaries of synthetic biology by tackling some of the world's most pressing issues💡

🦠 One of the teams is iGEM Team Marburg with the project: NRPieceS

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the biggest problems of modern medicine in livestock and humans. By using specialized enzymes (NRPS), Team Marburg aims to produce new antimicrobial peptides and test them against multi-resistant germs.

The competition will have its finale during the Grand Jamboree event in Paris between 28th and 31st of October.

October is arguably the most exciting month for science!

Every year during this time, the world celebrates the Nobel Prize laureates - a moment that reminds us how groundbreaking discoveries often begin decades earlier, driven by passion, persistence, and precision.

We congratulate this year’s winners of the Nobel Prize who highlight the power of long-term research:

🧫 Physiology or Medicine
From the discovery of regulatory T cells by Shimon Sakaguchi in 1995, to the identification of the FOXP3 gene by Mary Brunkow and Fred Ramsdell - this research laid the foundation for new treatments in autoimmune diseases, cancer, and transplantation.

⚗️ Chemistry
Susumu Kitagawa, Richard Robson, and Omar Yaghi pioneered metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) in 1989. Today, MOFs are revolutionising how we capture CO₂, purify water, and harvest moisture from desert air.

💡 These achievements are a testament to the power of science, patience, and precision - values we share at Socorex.
