I’m sure you don’t want to hear it but...f you truly want to heal your digestive system, ease anxiety, and embrace life, experience joy and fulfillment without the sense of being broken inside, then...you need to heal your conscious and unconscious wounds with your parents, especially your mother who is the foundation of your sense of self.

Your early interactions with her significantly shape your self-esteem, self-worth, and how connected you feel to your body. If there was an unexpected separation, birth complications, excessive criticism, parental conflicts, or emotional distance, your nervous system likely became overloaded with stress, triggering deep feelings of sadness, anger, and pain. If something crucial was missing or overwhelming, these experiences would have left a lasting impact on how you relate to yourself and others.

In order to cope, certain parts of you may have stepped in to protect you by numbing the hurt and building defenses—like overachieving, perfectionism, or a harsh inner critic—as a way to win the love and validation that were missing.

This unresolved emotional pain often resides in your enteric nervous system, which is your gut. Energetically, your stomach and intestines represent your center of inner power and self-identity. If left unaddressed, this can lead to various digestive issues and anxiety, which often serves as a cover for other uncomfortable emotions that you avoid feeling.

Have you ever noticed that moment when your boss critiques your work, and before you know it, you’re reaching for something sweet to soothe the sting? Or when loneliness hits at home, and suddenly that croissant seems like the perfect comfort?

In my practice, I’ve seen a strong connection: the deeper the shame -> the bigger the gut imbalance -> the stronger the cravings.

Here’s the thing—trauma often finds a home in your gut lining, and the bad bacteria thrive on it, driving those cravings for sweets and carbs.

Food can be both comforting and numbing. But who’s really pulling the strings behind your sweet tooth? It’s your gut bacteria!

Unresolved emotions, particularly shame, disrupt the delicate chemical and microbial balance in your body—especially in your gut, which is tightly linked to your nervous system and emotional well-being.

Yes, you heard me right. If you’ve been struggling with gut issues for some time now, and you’ve tried various diets or treatments, yet you still struggle with the uncomfortable symptoms that keep coming back, then there must be unprocessed shame and fear stuck in your belly.

Often, our wounded young parts are located in the gut, the center of our inner power and our identity. They carry a lot of shame as they believe they are not good enough or flawed in some way.

The truth is, that shame + fear repress other emotions like sadness, joy or anger. When you address the fear by establishing the connection with protective parts and listening to their worries and the shame, by befriending your inner critic (the shamer), you can get in touch with other emotions and help them get released.

This release is an energetic shift allowing the life force in your belly to flow freely once again. Once done, you can say goodbye to your annoying gut issues for good!

I used to be so disconnected from my body and her feelings that she had to scream at me through various physical symptoms just to get my attention. I remember ending up in hospitals, only to be told that I was 'okay'.

From mysterious pains, asthma, a breast tumor, digestive issues, to wild anxiety, my body was 'talking' to me, but I didn't know how to listen.

As a highly sensitive child, I built an armor to protect myself from getting hurt. I cut off from my feelings and retreated into my head, where I could intellectualize my emotions instead of experiencing them.

It's no surprise that I pursued a career in finance, where Excel sheets don't have feelings and the work is highly logical.

Yet, my body kept screaming until I embarked on a naturopathic journey and started understanding how emotions can drive our physical symptoms.

And from then on, everything began to shift.

It was a beautiful journey of returning to my Self. I started listening to my heart and gut feelings, letting emotions move through me, allowing myself to feel.

My life hasn't been the same since. Today, I have zero issues, nothing, nada. And when something does come up, I listen to it, deciphering what it is trying to tell me or teach me, and I embrace it with gratitude.

This is what I do for my clients as well. Together, we witness what their bodies are trying to communicate, what they are expressing.

I can assure you, that once you transition from a thinking body to a feeling body, you will not be the same. Your newly unleashed life force will bring many positive changes, not only in your health but in your entire life.

Today, I want to share some insights about a common, yet often misunderstood, aspect of our inner world: the inner critic. The inner critic is this harsh voice in our heads that often uses "shoulds" and "have to's" to shame us and keep us small. It is deeply worried, so it creates lots of anxious thoughts that keep us busy, distracted, and tense. An you know when it often resides in our bodies? In our stomachs - the center of inner power.

Solar plexus area of the body is related to our identity that influences our self-worth, self-esteem, confidence and personal power.

The more flawed you feel, the harsher your inner critic becomes, and it is easier for it to provoke physical symptoms like nausea, cramps, reflux, or indigestion. This critic is triggered by your insecurities, shame, and feelings of hopelessness, making it deeply anxious, worried, and obsessed with control and problem-solving. It keeps you stuck in your mind, away from your body.

When we connect with this critic, we may realize it’s the internalized voice of one of our parents, driving us to achieve and prove our worth to gain their love and attention. This inner critic is actually a protective part, shielding the wounded inner child who didn't receive the emotional validation they needed.

By befriending your inner critic, you can reach your hurt inner child. Understanding their pain and witnessing their experience through the compassionate lens of your adult Self allows you to transmute painful emotions and let go of old narratives, creating space for new, empowering ones.

By acknowledging and working with this inner critic, we can transform it from a source of distress to a guide that helps us connect more deeply with our true selves. And as a side effect, it can stop giving you stomach upset and other uncomfortable digestive symptoms.

Do you know that your body doesn't differentiate between what's real and what's imagined? Everything you ingest – food or emotional experiences like humiliation – leaves an imprint on your being. Some of it is absorbed, some eliminated, but all of it shapes your identity.

Consider the small intestine, a vital player in the digestion process. Its role in nutrient absorption mirrors the assimilation of insights into your self-esteem. As you navigate life's experiences, the small intestine symbolizes the phase of integration, where you mold your self-perception based on what you've learned.

Then there's the large intestine, responsible for consolidating waste and readying it for elimination. In a fascinating parallel, this physiological function mirrors the psychological process of discerning what no longer serves us and embracing the act of letting go. Here, you confront outdated beliefs and emotions, recognizing their burden on your psychological well-being.

In essence, viewing your gut through this lens offers a transformative perspective. It invites you to see digestion not just as a physical process, but as a metaphor for psychological assimilation and release.

If you feel that your self-worth is low, you are anxious, afraid of being rejected or abandoned, ashamed, there is this deep sadness, or you cannot let go and you have a strong need for control, then you might experience gut issues.

Have you felt invalidated, maybe neglected, unseen, or humiliated in your childhood?

Then you might have internalized a belief that something is wrong with you and you're unworthy of love. As you cannot fight or flight your parental figures, the only solution for your nervous system is to freeze. The freeze response is the silent cry of a helpless child who feels powerless.

The freeze response triggers cortisol - the stress hormone to be released and its excess leads to inflammation. The inflammation is a result of your boundaries being crossed and storing the unexpressed anger. This anger that has not been released turns against you wreaking havoc on your digestive system.

If left untreated over the years, it may lead to IBS, stomach ulcers, acid reflux, constipation, leaky gut, Crohn’s disease, food intolerances, and many other digestive issues. Your body simply expresses what your mind represses.

To heal you need to address and unload distorted thoughts and beliefs your parts carry about yourself and incorporate the body to support the movement and discharge of physical sensations and facilitate the release of painful feelings (such as unworthiness, loneliness, and unlovability).
