CHINA has claimed a coronavirus vaccine could be ready for use by September as the world searches for a cure.

Dr Gao Fu, a leading virologist and head of China's Centre for Disease Control, predicted the inoculation could be ready for "emergency use" by the autumn.

It comes as scientists the world over are attempting to develop a vaccine for Covid-19 - which has killed almost 200,000 people across the globe.

Dr Gao however was confident that China could role out the cure before the end of 2020.

He admitted however it would only be an "emergency vaccine" - with a wider shot available at the start of next year.

The first human trial in Europe of a coronavirus vaccine has begun in Oxford.

Two volunteers were injected, the first of more than 800 people recruited for the study.

Half will receive the Covid-19 vaccine, and half a control vaccine which protects against meningitis but not coronavirus.

The first two people have been injected as part of a UK study of a Covid-19 vaccine.

Inovio Pharmaceuticals along with the University of Pennsylvania’s research facility and the Wistar Institute, have been working on the vaccine as early as this past January. Originally reported by Fox News, the vaccine was fast-tracked into development after the Chinese government made the genome sequencing of COVID-19 public.

Nearly three months later, a crucial first phase of testing has begun. Researchers with Inovio say that they were able to design their vaccine in just three hours after receiving a sequence for the virus.

The head of one of the world’s biggest vaccine companies says Europe needs to wake up to the challenge of manufacturing enough coronavirus shots to halt the pandemic.

As others squabble over the timing and details of how to develop such a vaccine, Sanofi Chief Executive Officer Paul Hudson points further ahead to the continent’s ability to produce enough to meet demand.

Australia’s national science agency plans to test a pair of vaccines over the next 90 days, part of a global race to stop the coronavirus pandemic.
As researchers scramble for a cure, a doctor featured in “Pandemic,” a Netflix documentary, announced his team may have discovered a coronavirus cure which will now be tested by the U.S. military.

CSIRO will initially test two vaccine candidates that were developed by the University of Oxford and American biotechnology company Inovio Pharmaceuticals, the site reported. The candidates were identified by CEPI in consultation with the World Health Organization.

“We will keep working until this viral enemy is defeated.”

“I’m happy to report that my team has successfully taken five antibodies that back in 2002 were determined to bind and neutralize, block and stop the SARS virus [and] evolved them in our laboratory, so now they very vigorously block and stop the SARS-CoV-2 [COVID-19] virus as well.” Glanville told the Radio New Zealand program “Checkpoint.”
