๐Ÿซ PROSPECT Recommendations for Open Thoracotomy
Postoperative pain after open thoracotomy is complex, and getting it right matters.

This PROSPECT infographic summarises the latest evidence-based recommendations for optimal postoperative pain management following open thoracotomy.

Key takeaways include:

๐Ÿ‘‰ A strong foundation of systemic (basic) analgesia with paracetamol and NSAIDs
๐Ÿ‘‰ Regional analgesia as a cornerstone, with TEA or PVB as first-line options
๐Ÿ‘‰ Alternative fascial plane or intercostal techniques when first-line blocks are not feasible
๐Ÿ‘‰ Opioids reserved for rescue analgesia, not routine use
๐Ÿ‘‰ Non-pharmacological techniques when regional options are not possible

A practical, procedure-specific guide to support safer, more effective perioperative pain management.
