About Me
Professional Qualifications and Experiences:
My name is Melissa Pollick and I’ve been working as a psychological counselor in private practice since 2012, establishing my own practice in 2014. Previously, I’ve worked as a psychological counselor in universities, international schools, a psychiatric hospital in Ireland, and a refugee center in Geneva. I’ve also done group work for several organizations in Switzerland on various topics, including social skills and crisis management. I hold a Master of Counseling degree from Webster University Geneva as well as a Bachelor of Psychology degree from the University of Toledo (USA). Further, I hold a ‘droit de pratique’ in the canton of Geneva and am an ASCA certified counselor. ASCA is a Swiss association which recognizes non-medical therapies and therefore helps my clients receive insurance reimbursement. Further, I have done additional training in couples counseling, supporting individuals and families in transition, mindfulness, depression in university students, and crisis management. Therapeutic Techniques:
I am trained in a variety of counseling approaches including psychodynamic, cognitive- behavioral, attachment, systemic, trauma-based interventions, and mindfulness, among others. I am a person-centered therapist, meaning that I adapt my approach to meet the needs of each individual or couple. Personal Experiences:
I’m American and have been living in Geneva since 2011. I have experienced what it’s like being an expat, living abroad in several countries including Switzerland, Ireland, and Germany. I am therefore no stranger to the unique difficulties faced by expats and their families. This offers me a unique perspective which I lend to my clients.
