This week in IBRA Flash, we explore the Advantages of the Retroauricular Transmeatal Approach: A Comprehensive Review by Dr. Bianca Pulino, Univ. Prof. Dr. Dr. Andreas Neff, Prof. Dr. Raphael Capelli Guerra

The retroauricular transmeatal approach offers a direct, minimally invasive access to mandibular condyle fractures, enabling:
- Precise anatomical reduction and rigid fixation with miniplates and screws.
- Reduced risk of facial nerve injury compared to traditional extraoral approaches.
- Superior aesthetic outcomes thanks to a hidden scar behind the ear.
- Mechanical advantage for screw placement at 90° to the bone surface.
- Ideal for high condylar fractures, patients with prior preauricular surgery, or those concerned about visible scars.

Challenges:
- Requires transection and reconstruction of the auditory canal (risk of stenosis).
- Possible temporary sensory loss in auriculotemporal nerve region.
- This approach is a valid alternative for complex condylar fractures, balancing functional recovery, aesthetics, and nerve safety.

We closed out the year in Phoenix, Arizona with last event of 2025, the IBRA Advanced Course Upper Extremity Trauma: Fracture Management of the Elbow, Wrist and Hand.

This course featured an interactive theoretical session followed by an extensive practical part with the opportunity for participants to work with pre-fractured specimens. IBRA scholarship report. Dr. Imelda Castellano Romero completed her IBRA Scholarship at the University Hospital of the Canary Islands in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Spain this June.
✅ Objective: Review a series of seven cases treated by endoscopic Flexor Hallucis Longus (FHL) transfer in chronic Achilles tendon rupture and describe the surgical technique.
✅ Methodology: Case series study at a tertiary university hospital, reviewing seven patients with factors such as age, comorbidities, and prior treatments. Postoperative follow-up included functional assessment and MRI in most cases.
