Romain a repris toutes mes classes .

I offer this workshop once a year for practitioners who wish to deepen their knowledge about these important techniques which are essential for any practitioner interested in practicing this method.

It is through these essential techniques that the practice of Asana (postures) can lead to sustainable practice steadying the mind and body, and having more profound effects than just sweating, becoming more flexible or tonifying the body.

Applying these techniques leads to withdrawing the senses from the outer world while practicing, stilling the fluctuations of the mind, directing and channelling Prana (breath & energy), concentration (dharlna) with time turning into meditation (dhyana), clarity...

Practicing with the lack of these techniques result in injury, agitating the nervous system, feeling either too tired or restless/irritated after practice, scattered mind, lack of concentration, sensory organs engaged in the outside world while practicing, dispersed energy... more likely leading to duhkha (suffering)

This workshop is for all levels as it is a lifetime journey practicing on these techniques and revisiting these fundamentals.

Please DM if you have any questions about registration or the workshop.

⁣Some practitioners drive a long way in snow and ice to come for practice early morning. Some coming all the way from Fribourg, Allaman, Yverdon les Bain, Lausanne, Vallais... ⁣

Every practitioner has to figure out many things with their partner, children, boss, job, pets, housework, parents, nutrition, sleep... to make it to practice. Basically shape their life style in a way to make practice happen because it is important to them, and one of their priorities. When we see the benefits of the practice in our everyday life, in our mental & physical health, in our relationship with ourselves and others, making healthier choices.... we start to really value this precious time we set aside for our Sadhana ( daily spiritual practice). We will always be busy and we will always have challenging situations coming at us, there will never be a " perfect time" for practice. If you want to have a Sadhana and it's important to you, you need to make time for it and structure your life in a way to make this possible. It's a choice. ⁣

If you're interested in starting your yoga journey, I'm offering a Beginner's workshop on January 9th. ⁣

Pasasana & the Tibio-talar joint

Pasana is a golden opportunity to work on the freedom of the ankle joint besides the other benefits this posture has to offer. I often witness many practitioners do 5 clumsy quick breaths on each side shoving the nearest object under their heels (even if its not the appropriate hight and material) and move on to the next posture. Then spend 20 min in Kapotasana!

The mobility and freedom of the tibio-talar joint could be considered one of the most important articulations for a human being moving in gravity. The way the body assembles itself in gravity greatly depends on the angle and freedom of this joint. Very often the importance of the adaptability of our feet and the way they hit the ground with each step and how they propel us forward moving through space is underestimated. The angle of our ankle joint is one of the determining factors if we can stand in the centre of our gravity in smasthiti or if we are more towards the heels or more forward towards the front foot. The freedom of our ankle will determine the tilt and shift of our pelvis and the arrangement of all the girdles stacked above; knees, hips, shoulders and the jaw.

If the foundation in the feet doesn’t support the body above, another region of the body will take on the responsibility for support—a knee, a hip or even the shoulders. As Ida Rolf says, only by bringing peace “from the ground up” can problems higher in the body be “understood”.

If you experience tightness in the ankles, your feet, and your lower leg, don’t turn a blind eye to it. It will greatly change how we carry ourselves through out life for the rest of our time moving on earth in gravity. If just by doing yoga asanas and self-care you are not getting results seek help from a body worker either going to a good osteopath or Rolfer™. This is our speciality and one of the first areas we look at dealing with misalignment and pain in any other part of the body.

Proud of my mother for staying committed to her regular practice at age 68, even when she is camping in the beautiful British Columbia. She knows I would be scolding her if she skips practice so she sent me a few photos to show me that she got on her mat! I tell her that It is always our choice to make time and space for things that are important to us and to make them our priorities. Everything is figure out able if it really matters to us and if we really want to do it. My mom is conscious of how she starts aching in her body, getting negative in her mind and grumpy when she skips practice for a few days, just like the rest of us. Sooo let’s keep our regular practice of asana, pranayama and meditation 😃

Reality of Airbnb practice. Find a piece of space, invent the props you need with what is available, get on with the practice, find nirodha & samadhi despite the noises drilling in your head! The reality of daily practice is most of the time very different from all these perfectly groomed, dressed, serene spaces we see on Instagram.

When I hear this tears fall out of the corner of my eyes. The power of music and vibrations. But I ask myself how come is it that certain tones and rhythms shatter or touch something so deep inside us (in a good way), that we have no words to describe it but through tears, dance or silence. For me Music and Dance are one of the highest forms of manifestation of the Divine. This beauty is just Absolute Divine. The outcome of this coming together of Flamenco and Rajasthani singing is speaking God to me. CONVERSATIONS WITH ANNAMALAI SWAMI

Q: I went to Skandashram yesterday. As I sat there, for no reason at all, tears started to come. I cried and cried. I am a li...ttle puzzled by this. Why should something like this happen?

AS: A similar thing happened to me once. When I was very young I went to the town and the temple where Siva first appeared to Manikkavachagar. When I sat in the temple tears flowed down my face.

Tears like this are often a sign of grace. When your tears are for God rather than for worldly things, the mind and the heart are purified. If you want God so much that you cry when you call on Him, He will surely come to you. When a baby cries, its mother comes to feed it. When a devotee cries because he is hungry for grace. God sends the grace to nourish him.

Next week will be my last week teaching regularly
This is closure of a cycle for me, and begging of a new phase. Many changes coming for me.

I’m very thankful to Pascal and for giving me the opportunity to share what I really love at their school. I want to thank all of you who came to practice with me early morning or after a long day of work. Also thankful to those of you who had the intention of coming but never made it!

I have grown so much as a person and a teacher these past two years sharing the practice with you at Yogaflame.

I will be teaching workshops at yogaflame hopefully and regular Mysore classes in Vevey & Lausanne, incase you wish to continue practicing with me.

I want to give and do so much, but I have to be realistic with the time and energy I have got and prioritise things and channel my energy towards my Dharma (sacred duty) and my own Sadhana.

All Ashtanga classes at yogaflame will be most likely taught by dear Romain who has with so much dedication built his Ashtanga practice with me and continues his regular practice with pure devotion, carrying out similar style of teaching with his own personality.

If you wish to receive updates from me regarding retreats, workshops and classes DM me your email.

Just like for any other yoga teacher and studio owner, this last year has been full of challenges, ups and downs and requiring adaptation every month. Sometimes I think you really have to be crazy and mad to decide to be a Yoga teacher and plus to have an early morning Mysore Program and an Ashtanga Vinyasa school which is more difficult than having a regular yoga school. You have to be mad in a good way to decide to do this. I think the only way to get through is that it’s your real “calling”, dharma. This last week was just one event after another of unpleasant and challenging situations with students and the studio. To the point that I almost had a breakdown on Friday. Sometimes I have moments that I say, I’m going to close the Shala and stop teaching and choose the easy way out, just focusing on my own practice. But when I see the light of the Beloved in my student’s eyes, their enthusiasm, love, dedication, devotion to the practice, and their progress both internally and physically, I find the motivation to continue and strength to get through hard times.
Here is my dear , phd student in robotics getting up early for his mediation and then coming to the studio for his asana practice. He moved from Martigny where his university campus is , to Montreux so that he makes sure he shows up for practice early morning everyday. When you want something and you are serious about it you find solutions to make it happen. Here he is in Pincha Mayurasana getting closer to his central axis in all senses. 📷

A friend of mine just sent this photo to me from 6-7 years ago, in a storage room in Madrid. My last years of dancing when I was touring most of the year, I had given back my apartment and reduced my life to fit in to a small storage in Madrid, and my expensive costumes at my dear friend’s house and , who put up with my stuff taking space in their attic for years. I had one lauggage where it was filled with two flamenco shoes, 2 street clothes and the rest clothing to sweat in for rehearsals. Every time I would come to Madrid I had to go to my storage to leave the thick winter coats and grab lighter clothes since we used to tour in colder norther European countries! My nomad life was very different from the rest of my Spanish or European colleagues that used to tour, because they had their parents and family to go back to when they were off from touring. During the few days of Christmas break they would go back to their parents where as for me it made no difference cause my family lived far far away, and I would rent an Airbnb or stay at friends house. Those days were an amazing life and experience but I think this photo shows quite well my phase coming to an end with this nomad life and wanting a nest to settle, and deciding to stop dancing and earning a living from performing. I admire and have soooo much respect for my colleagues who continue living this challenging but at the same time beautiful life earning a living from arts and dance in this unjust world that has less and less value for artists and culture with time.

Ashtanga Yoga Vevey - Mysore Practice

Ashtanga Yoga Montreux was started by Delara Tiv, a Rolfer Structural Integration™ and

Flamenco dancer. Delara is a certified Yoga teacher whose objective is to lead each student to develop and adore their daily yoga self-practice. Classes are Mysore style, starting in June at Ananda Shala (Avenue de Traménaz 18, Tour-de-Peilz) 6:30-10:00 am. Traditionally the practice is done in the morning before you start your day, as the sun rises. When you start the day doing something to nourish the body, mind and soul you will notice that throughout the day you will tend to make choices that also nourish.

Mysore Style is the traditional way of teaching the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, as taught by Sri K.

Pattabhi Jois. In Mysore, India all the yoga students were taught ‘individually’ within the group. In Mysore class, everyone works within his or her own breathing rhythm and capabilities; growing slowly with the practice to ensure a life-long sustainable practice. Students will begin to learn and to memorise the sun salutations and then eventually the whole primary series. For more info please check out the website www.practiceashtangayoga.com
