He always told us not to be sad when he passed, but my heart is crying today, even after 2 years I still miss him.

The blue tiled floor
So many of you have asked me how I got to know Ajahn Pichet, so here goes.
My journey started in 2008, I studied, as so many of us, at a westernized school, learning techniques and about energy lines.
After school we used to meet in a little café, which had a practice room on the 1st floor.
It’s there that I met Jo, who after sharing practice with me, told me I should go see Pichet.
Thing is, there were so many rumors going around, that he wasn’t 'nice'
And it scared the heck out of me.
But in 2011 I finally took the decision to go see him.
After all, no one could force me to stay there if it didn’t work out, right?
His not being 'nice' was that he was just very direct, I loved that you never had to guess where you were at with him.
Our days would start with prayers and dharma talks, sharing laughter about our own ‘thinking to much'
Then he would pick out someone to be our 'body teacher'
Telling us to feel, feel

where the body had issue, tension or to many held emotions.
Afterwards he would show us how to release these and how to make the person ‘feel better'
He was also very insistent to respect our own body as a practitioner, to not hurt ourselves while helping others but to help our own body at the same time.
I am so very happy and grateful that I went, it has been so enriching.
To learn with him, but also all the other therapists from around the world.
The blue tiled room was a meeting point for us all to come together, to share our thoughts and experiences.
To tell stories about our year, our dreams and what makes us happy.

Cold plunges

WARMTH = LIFE

At the core of TCM and Thai massage philosophy is the idea of maintaining internal warmth and protecting the body from forces of external cold to live a long and healthy life.

Chinese and Thai Medicine says, we must guard the organs from the cold as this can disrupt blood flow and lead to stagnation, where disease and discomfort arise.

It is crucial to preserve our "digestive fire" by consuming well-cooked, warming foods to avoid stagnation, gas, bloating and constipation. When we have a strong digestive fire we can easily break down and extract nutrients from our food.

Preserving internal warmth is especially important for women as the construction of blood vessels induced by cold exposure can hinder blood circulation and lead to PMS symptoms like cramps.

Have you ever used a heating pad to relieve period cramps? This works because the warmth smooths the flow of blood to remove the construction and cramping caused by stuck blood.

Especially for women
Warmth releases tension and improves circulation, so this is why you feel instantly relaxed when they use a hot compress or warm oil during a massage.

Are the instantenous benefits good for us long term?

Many argue that cold plunging is beneficial because it puts your body in a state of mild stress so your cells are ignited to repair themselves, while also releasing pleasure hormones from the brain like serotonin and dopamine.

Ever noticed how old people tend to get colder as they age?
TCM and Thai medicine, contends, that the body has to use such a large amount of energy to bring itself back to a normal body temperature, that it can lead to depletion over time, running down our internal defense systems and making us more vulnerable to disease and aging.

The difference between men vs women

It is an especially important consideration for women whose baseline body temperature is naturally cooler.

While men can experience more immediate benefits from cold plunging due to their naturally elevated body temperature, women need to extra cognizant of depleting their internal warmth over time. It can have more adverse effects on their reproductive health and overall vitality.

We take our health for granted until we no longer have it.

Building resilience doesn't just mean pushing ourselves to extremes, it also means honoring the body through nourishment and preservation.

We can still challenge ourselves to do hard things, but we must be careful not to run ourselves into a a state of depletion by taking it too far.

It's easy to get caught up in all of the latest wellness fads, but it's important that we come back to ancient wisdom and our own intuition to decide what is best for our unique bodies.

Everyone is talking about them at the beginning of the year
Goals for business, where do you see yourself at the end of the year
How much money do you want to earn
How skinny you want to be, by summer

. And on and on and on.
I am not setting any!
After many year I have learned to live more in the now.
To be more present in the moment.
Does that mean I am not pursuing my dreams? Far from it!
Living in the moment means my eyes will be open for new opportunities,
that my heart will guide me,
instead of my head telling me all that I should do, and leaving frustration in it’s wake.
My only intention for this year is to joyously live from the heart and to listen to my intuition.

today was an emotional day
coming back to this room,
after our teacher passed away last year.
so many memories linger here, the laughter we shared, lessons learned, dharma talks and sharing with fellow therapist friends.
His son and daughter in law are doing an amazing job, keeping his legacy alive, while being true to themselves.
Thank you Lee and Aon for everything you do 🙏
