In search of God become an ascetic
Shri Krishan Puri was born on 20.09.1963 in Vienna. In 1967 he moved with his family to Muttenz, in Switzerland, near the border triangle of Germany and France, the centre of the three Bölchen (mystical mountains) of the area, where he spent his youth. At 18, h
e traveled as a backpacker to India to find God and himself. In India there are thousands of Sadhus,the indian population revered and worship them as a holy men. Shri Krishan Puri did this life with short breakouts, since his eighteenth birthday, he go on this long road to enlightenment, through all the ups and downs. From seeker to Sadhu
To realize his dream of India, after finishing school, Krishan had first to earn the necessary funds, working at the post and as a roofer. Pack light, he flew to Delhi, took a bus to Rishikesh, where even the Beatles and many more dropouts were staying from the West. His first teacher Sri Mahant Dyhan Giri, a "Sannyasin" meets Krishan on the Gaths (Trivenigath) at the "Ganges" that is the place where he meet him for first time. When Krishan Puri realized what is inherent in him, he asked him if he would like to travel with him through India. We agreed and travel 1000 km towards south to the city Ujjain. In Mahakaleshwar, one of the twelve sacred temples of India, in the famous Shiva Temple the preparation for Sannyasin start, Shri Krishan Puri begin the Sadhu life, receiving the first initiation from his Guru, taking off his old clothes, name and identity. His Guru pulled a Dothi on him, orange Shirt, Mala (Rosary) and 11 Mukhi Rudraksha with a Braman String (Guru Dana) and whisper the Guru Mantra in his ear. From now on he followed his master. After Ujjain we went back to Rishikesh, we set ourselves under the sacred (Banyan) tree, next to the Gaths in Rishikesh (Trivenigath )", a place where every day thousands of pilgrims pass to take a bath in the holy river Ganges. "We built a roof under the tree to protect us against the monsoon, and as beds served us two old blankets," recalls Shri Krishan Puri. In that time all the people of the city passing everyday at our place to receive their blessings, the situation was so well that Krishan Puri could live constantly in the lion cloth, smeared in holy ashes. The day start early in the morning with bath in the Ganges and with a worship of the Guru, a Sadhu has mental and physical exercise. The duties of the student include, shopping and cooking as well as studying the Holy Scriptures, chanting mantras, yoga, meditation, rituals, Ayurveda, Hindi language, shamanism, Hindi social behaviour and the Hindi tradition. Like this Shri Krishan Puri was guided from his Guru for 14 years, mastering all the exercises that a Sadhu should master. “As a student you can see in your guru friend and foe, because he led you always to the border of pain. The student must learn to ignore the pain, to peel away the habits from the world, to become free for the essentials”. How many years he sat under the tree in total, Shri Krishan Puri, once an athletic young man, who cruised with the skateboard through Muttenz town, it was proximately 14 to17 years. He let his hair grow, smeared his body with holy ash and usually wore only a "Nagpani" on the body, consist of a cloth which is wrapped around the loins, a way of loincloth. To whom he felt deeply attracted. He admired the guru, who led a comfortable Yogi life. At the same time this Yogi was married, had three children, few cows and a piece of land for vegetable cultivation. From now on, Krishan lived no longer under his tree but in the Ashram of the Master. There he sits with his guru by the fireplace the "Dhuni", the most important medium of the Sadhus, the fire, to practice mental concentration. I have learned a thousand things every day, said Shri Krishan Puri, which has incorporated with all his being the Hinduism (Sanatana-Dharma) in body and soul. 2001 Krishan was taken by Sri Digamber Indrajeed Puri into the inner circle of the Sadhus, the Sadhus of the inner circle performed traditionally his final initiation, at the Kumbh Mela in Ujjain. There he have made his Samaskar (initiation ritual) and the Shahi Sanan (special bath) completely and become a Naga Baba, Avadhut Shri Krishan Puri, parallel with Narmada Puri (Sadhvi) together. For that he has to cut and shave all body hair, to have the start of the status of a newborn. About 200 people in that time from the West have existed through the whole history of Shri Pancha Dasnami Sampradaya Juna Akhara (Bhairon Akhara), Order of the strict latency and become "masters" and members of the Gymkhana. Shri Krishan Puri received a certified document (Brahmpater) proved and stamped by the Indian high code and the Akhada. Sri Digamber Indrajeed Puri went to his Samadhi at Kumbh Mela in Haridvard 2010
In meantime the circle of life has closed. Today, Shri Krishan Puri is back in the former house of his parents in Muttenz, from where he had left at eighteen. Since it is supported by his family, he remains enough time to meditate. Shri Krishan Puri has still kept the connection with India. After his second master had gone into Samadhi, he hastily went to Haridwar to the Ashram to attend the Samadhi ritual. Sri Santosh Puri was not cremated or send it to Ganges, but buried in a salt mine grave. Over the grave of the holy man the family and his follower’s built a small Samadhi temple, for the construction of the temple and the Bandara (duty gathering of the Sadhus and followers, where is served food and are given money to everyone there in honor of the person who leave the world), Shri Krishan Puri contributed all his resources he posses. In Switzerland, Shri Krishan Puri menage to find same-minded people for mental rafting in the garden with a Dhuni (fireplace). "It serves us in a full moon for spiritual purposes and for the daily praxis, but also can be used for cooking too," said Shri Krishan Puri

The Ashram is situated in a town family house, which consists also a nice garden and small fire place, positioned in a quiet ambient in Baumgartenweg 10, CH – 4132 Muttenz, Switzerland. The concept of the Baumgarten Ashram in Muttenz is multicultural, it consists:

Shri Krishan Puri has his routine here that he follows and practice: Sanatana Dharma, Sheva, Dyhan. He practices the Pushpanchali, reading lecture, yoga, meditation, satsang and a decent Duni (Sadhu fireplace), he runs all this things here in the Ashram and when someone shows interest in all this he can feel free to join it to. Thanks to the two locations it is offered a wide range courses and possibilities:

The existing venues, as well as the technical equipment of the Sound studio, can also be rented for other purposes, feel free to ask.The kitchen is one hundred percent vegetarian, special diets, such as Ayurvedic, Falari, Dudari, etc... are welcome.The Ashram can accommodate four people; there are two sleeping rooms, one with double bed and one with two single beds. Note: For visitors with no income it is also possible to be here but they have to help in form of work (Karmayoga) and bring themselves into the project, for all others there exist a fee, because the project needs a lot of investments and care, life in Switzerland is real expensive and never forget that everything here has to be in continuous work, so all your investment is for the project and for the community of the Ashram and for yourself to have a wonderful good time.
