A four-week internship at Jota offered a dental student the opportunity to gain practical insights, exchange knowledge, and collaborate with experienced professionals.

The program fostered mutual learning, hands-on experience, and professional development in a supportive environment.

Hands-on experience in the laboratory provided valuable insights into manufacturing processes and material science, with academic input supporting a user-centered approach.

Time in the office allowed for exchanges, where clinical knowledge from dental studies helped strengthen the connection between practical application and daily work processes.

On Swiss National Day, Swiss people often decorate their homes with the Swiss national flag or the flags of their canton and municipality.

Very close to our headquarters, the largest national flag in Switzerland is hoisted on the rock face of Mount Säntis.

The cantons and municipalities usually have their own traditions and customs for the day, but there are always celebrations where bells are rung. At 8 p.m. sharp, all church bells ring for a quarter of an hour. As darkness falls, there are bonfires, lantern marches, and fireworks.

And we at JOTA also celebrate this day as well.

An inspirational visit from ZMK Bern at JOTA AG

We were pleased to welcome Assoc. Prof. Dr. med. dent. Gülce Çakmak from the Clinic of Reconstructive Dentistry and Gerodontology at ZMK Bern to our headquarters in Rüthi.

The full-day visit was marked by inspiring conversations, mutual exchange of knowledge, and the first steps toward potential collaboration in the field of innovative dental materials.

Hands-on sessions and scientific dialogue made this a truly valuable and motivating experience for both sides.

We sincerely thank Prof. Çakmak for the enriching visit and look forward to what lies ahead.

KIT 1936 – Green / White State Refining

Polishing zirconia in the green / white (pre-sintered) stage simplifies the finishing process after final sintering and improves both the optical appearance and mechanical strength of the restoration.

The KIT 1936 includes all essential instruments for:
• Separating zirconia or sintered metal restorations from the disc or block using the detach carbide
• Grinding connectors and thinning crown margins in the white stage with PRE-SINTERPOL polishers
• Contouring surfaces and shaping fissures with diamond instruments
• Precisely retightening fissures using the steel instrument 515L
• Polishing pre-sintered zirconia with light pressure using the Swivel
A study by Pfefferle et al. (Munich, 2020) confirmed that white-stage polishing significantly improves the translucency and mechanical properties of zirconia restorations.
Recommendations for safe and effective polishing:
• Polish only in dry conditions.
Moisture can carry contaminants into the porous surface and affect the optical result.
• Always wear clean gloves when handling or polishing pre-sintered zirconia.

The material is highly sensitive and can absorb colored particles or stains from your skin or environment.
• Use diamond burs for contouring and surface refinement.
Avoid tungsten carbide burs, as they may cause microcracks and reduce the final strength of the zirconia.
• Recommended pressure:
Apply light pressure to avoid damaging the soft pre-sintered material.
• Do not use polishing paste in the white stage. It can pe*****te the porous zirconia surface and reduce the final translucency after sintering.

• The HARD SPLINT KIT provides dental professionals with a perfectly matched selection of instruments for the precise processing of thermoformed splints. From the initial trimming of excess foil to the final high-gloss polish, this set en sures efficient processing with outstanding surface quality.

• The first step is handled by the carbide bur C515, which is ideal for the targeted removal of excess foil and precise trimming of the edges.
