In Raum und wohnen! 🫶 Raum und Wohnen

Endlich Sommer. Wirklich jetzt.
😍 Cover📷: schmid_

Scenography - Liuli, Waste to Wonder ✨

For this special occasion, the Swiss Design Awards exhibition, I designed a scenography inspired by the fluid forms of molten glass.
Rotating platforms gently projected the patterns of colorful glass waste onto the walls — a quiet shadow dance echoing the poetic transformation at the heart of Liuli – Waste to Wonder.

Huge thanks to 🙏🙏🙏

for the flawless ex*****on of the furniture and painting 🌟🌟🌟

for the glass table top 🤗

Bianchi for lending the super screen 📺

and special thank to my intern Benjamin for the countless setups and teardowns, the brainstorming sessions, many 3D prints, and perfect programming of the iPad and screen. 🙌

The exhibition is now over, but my heart is full.
I’m beyond happy and proud to have received a Swiss Design Award 2025 for this project!
What an incredible journey — thank you for all your support 💛

A glimpse into the Liuli collection. 👀✨

Each piece is one of a kind – born from discarded glass fragments, melted and reshaped into new forms. What was once considered waste becomes poetry in motion.

This project started during a residency in China with Rong Design Library and Pro Helvetia Shanghai, where I explored the potential of colorful glass waste from bead production. With the help of local artisans in Boshan – the cradle of Chinese glass – we gave a second life to these overlooked materials.

Liuli – Waste to Wonder just received a Swiss Design Award 2025 – and I’m incredibly honored.

A selection of pieces is now available – DM me if you’re curious or interested.
Let’s keep rethinking what’s considered worthless.

Last night I won a Swiss Design Award and it feels so unreal 🥲 – a dream come true!! 🌟

I’m soooo happy, so lucky and honestly overwhelmed with gratitude.

This project : “Liuli, waste to wonder” truly moved me. It reflects so much of what I believe in and how I approach my practice — with heart, curiosity, and a desire to connect tradition, people, materials and meaning. These last few months have been intense, demanding, but so worth it.

A big shout-out to hard work — to anyone out there pushing, doubting, hoping… don’t give up. Stay focused, keep going, and one day… it happens. ✨

Thank you for all the support, the encouragement, the honest feedback, the energy — over the years. It’s thanks to you that I’m here today. ♥️

A special thank you to Shanghai and that made this so special research trip possible! ✨

A huge thank you to my assistant Yang Liu who has been an amazing organizer, translator, photographer and among all a great friend ♥️

And thank you to and the amazing jury!! 🥂🥹

The series of the first vases I made with the glass recycling technique !

During my residency in China organized by the Rong Design Library and Pro Helvetia Shanghai, I was drawn to the scrap glass rods in the workshop. Their vibrant colors were captivating, yet they were discarded due to imperfections. Inspired by their untapped potential, I explored the possibility of reusing these scraps. With the help of skilled artisans, we cut the rods into smaller pieces and dipped them into molten crystal-colored materials. These were then fused together in a high-temperature furnace before undergoing blowing and shaping processes. The inherent unpredictability of liuli led to the scrap rods blending naturally with the colors, resulting in unique and beautifully random patterns. This process not only celebrated the material’s imperfections but also highlighted the creative potential of waste.

Liuli - waste into wonder 💎

During my visit to Boshan, I learned that Chinese liuli workshops often experiment with mixing color formulas to create pigments, while other countrie’s Glass workshops typically purchase ready-made glass rods.

The glass factory I worked with had a side business that involved exporting semi-finished liuli hollow rods, which are used to make necklaces and other decorative items for bags. First,Processed into long, uniform rods in the factory, then cut into smaller sections and sent to another workshop, where they are heated at high temperatures to round off the ends for further production.

I used some waste from their production as a starting point for a new project.

Liuli - waste into wonder

This bowl is made of multiple scrap glass rods aligned next to each other. Being heated and shaped, they turn into a striped pattern.

Sample part of the Research trip I took with and this summer in Zibo, China.
