Zeramex® XT and NobelPearl™ two-piece zirconia implants showed a 98.2% survival rate and stable peri-implant tissue conditions after up to 7 years (mean 3-year follow-up) – a new retrospective study by Tartsch et al. Prof. Dr. Bruno Chrcanovic (Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Oral Medicine, Malmö University, Sweden),

Prof. Dr. Ralf Kohal (University Medical Center Freiburg, Center for Dental Medicine, Department of Prosthetic Dentistry, Faculty of Medicine, University of Freiburg), and
Prof. Dr. Tomas Albrektsson (Department of Biomaterials, University of Gothenburg, Sweden)
investigated the clinical performance of the two-piece zirconia implants (Zeramex® XT and NobelPearl™) with follow-up periods of up to 7 years as well as their surface topography.
Key results of the study:
· Between 2017 and 2024, 167 Zeramex® XT und NobelPearl™ implants were placed in 106 patients and followed for up to 88 months (mean follow-up: 39.1 months)
· The effective survival rate was 98.2% (three implants were lost – two due to fracture and one due to lack of osseointegration)
· Zeramex® XT and NobelPearl™ demonstrated stable peri-implant tissue conditions
· Mean marginal bone loss ranged between –0.14 mm and –0.58 mm
· The implant surfaces exhibited low roughness (Sa ~0.5 µm)
· In the univariate analysis, no clinical risk factor showed a significant association with implant loss
