SLOW METABOLISM HINDERING WEIGHT LOSS?
GENETIC 'SWITCH' MAY BE THE ANSWER

Many who struggle with their weight will often blame a “slow” metabolism – meaning their bodies do not burn calories as quickly or as efficiently as others’. For those who do suffer this condition, investigators say they have found a genetic “switch” that can accelerate a person’s basal metabolic rate – leading to a dramatic reduction in the risk for obesity and diabetes. http://fxn.ws/1hGz2m9

ANOTHER STUDY SHOWS THE LINK BETWEEN GENES & WEIGHT LOSS

Concerning the genetic basis of obesity, several SNPs located in different genes have been found to be associated with adiposity, dietary patterns or weight loss7,8. In this context, several studies have shown significant relationships between adiposity, dyslipi- demia, hypertension, diabetes or an increased cardio- vascular risk and individual SNPs9-18, including APOA1, APOA5, FTO and CETP, which are genes involved in the regulation of plasma lipid levels.

EVERYTHING YOU "KNOW" ABOUT OBESITY IS WRONG

Research on the obesity epidemic to date has identified a long list of contributing factors, including ethnicity, income, bigger portion sizes, and fast food, among many others. But according to a recent report, scientists should rethink entirely the way obesity research is conducted.

US DOCUMENTARY CALLS FOR LAWS TO LIMIT CONSUMPTION OF HARMFUL SWEETENERS HIDDEN IN "HEALTHY FOOD"

Now comes Fed Up, a film that looks at the global problem of surging human obesity rates and obesity-related diseases. The film, produced by Laurie David, former wife of Seinfeld creator Larry David, and narrated by TV journalist Katie Couric, seeks to challenge decades of misconception and food industry-sponsored misinformation about diet and exercise, good and bad calories, fat genes and lifestyle. http://bit.ly/1jLDVzD

COULD POLAR BEARS HELP CURE OBESITY?
DNA MAY HOLD THE SECRET.

Why can polar bears gorge themselves on fat, grow exceptionally portly, and not have to worry about clogged veins and skyrocketing blood pressure like so many overweight Americans do? The short answer is: genetics.
