🤫Because of the saphenous nerve⚡️, which runs manly under the sartorius muscle and is one of the precautions, dry needling of this muscle is done with the pincer grip🤌.

⚠️The other precautions for the sartorius muscle are:
🔹Lateral femoral cutaneous nerve
🔹Femoral artery and vein
🔹Femoral nerve
🔹Lymph nodes
🔹Hip joint
🔹Knee joint

👉️Here you see the referred pain pattern of the sartorius muscle:
it runs over the muscle - from its origin to the insertion in the region of the medial aspect of the knee.

As you remember💡🤫, there are other muscles, causing referred pain in parts of the referred pain area of the sartorius muscle, such as vastus medialis muscle and adductor longus muscle.

👍️So don't forget to check sartorius muscles for triggerpoints with patients that have pain in this area✔️

The sartorius muscle is a superficial muscle, overlying the quadriceps femoris muscle in a spiral way🦵

Its origin📍 is the anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS) and it inserts 📍at the medial surface of the tibia and at the pes anserinus superficialis.

The muscle is innervated ⚡️by the femoral nerve and it has several functions in the hip and knee joint:

🔹Flexion, external rotation and abduction of the hip joint
🔹Internal rotation of the knee joint
🔹Medial stabilisation of the knee
🔹Assists in flexion of the knee joint

The median nerve passes between the two heads of the pronator teres muscle into the forearm ↙️

This is, where Trigger points in the pronator teres muscle can cause an entrapment of the median nerve 😫⚡️

As the entrapment in this area is not such a common condition, it is maybe easily overlooked and mistaken for the more prevalent carpal tunnel syndrome.🕵️

💡So don't forget to check this muscle in any case, when symptoms in relation to the median nerve occur✔️

The median nerve is a mixed nerve, that provides motor💪 functions to the forearm, wrist and hand and sensory🪶⚡️function to the hand.
It is the only nerve, that passes through the carpal tunnel and can be compressed there, what can result in a carpal tunnel syndrome.

The sensory branches of the median nerve provide sensation to the skin of the palmar and dorsal side of the hand and finger - as you can see it in the picture.

🤫💡So now I have one question for you:
Do you remember, which muscle can cause an entrapment of the median nerve in the area of the upper forearm❓️❔️❓️

Safety in dry needling is the highest priority for the DGSA ⚠️

That's why it is very important to know, where the course of nerves are running in the body - and that's what we show you at our courses 👈️

As we don't want to hit any nerves with dry needling⚡️

Learn more about safety in dry needling at our courses and in our 100+ dry needling video tutorials 🎞️💪
