We are all human! What happens if we sneeze in the OR?
Surgeons are trained to maintain sterility and focus during procedures, but if a sneeze were to occur, they would likely step back, ensure that they are not contaminating the sterile field, and take necessary precautions to maintain a safe and sterile environment.
The HEX Air integrated plenum system allows for uninterrupted laminar air flow and replaces the air in the OR room more than 20 times per hour at very low velocities, limiting the number of potential pathogens that can infect a surgical site.

A collective body of evidence shows that cell phones, tablets, and other personal hand-held devices are highly contaminated with microorganisms, some potentially pathogenic. Scientists at the University of Arizona have found that cell phones carry 10 times more bacteria than most toilet seats. That’s why we leave them outside!

The purpose of creating an operating room “sterile” field is to eliminate or reduce the number of microbes present to as few as possible. When a sterile field is opened, it is important to reduce the movement of furniture as it increases the risk of contaminated from airborne microbes.
The HEX OR uses antimicrobial walls with built in antimicrobial furniture to reduce the risk of contamination.

How clean is a traditional operating room?
A traditional Operating Room is clean but not sterile. The surgical operating field must be “sterile”, and this includes the surgical team and patient surfaces.
