SSPH+ thanks Antoine Flahault 💫

At the recent SSPH+ Directorate retreat in Geneva, we marked an important moment: the last session with Prof. Antoine Flahault as a member of the Swiss School of Public Health (SSPH+) Directorate. Antoine is now moving to Paris to take up a new position as Full Professor at Paris City University.

While we are sad to see him leave, we are deeply grateful for the energy, vision, and dedication he has shared with SSPH+. We warmly thank him for his invaluable contributions and wish him every success in this exciting new chapter.

About Antoine Flahault

Antoine has been a driving force in shaping public health both in Switzerland and internationally. A medical doctor with a PhD in biomathematics, he pioneered the field of digital epidemiology, developing innovative tools such as FluNet, which became a cornerstone of global influenza surveillance during the 2009 H1N1 pandemic.

Since 2014, as Professor at the University of Geneva and founding director of the Institute of Global Health - UNIGE at Campus Biotech, Antoine has brought together hashtag , life sciences, and social sciences to advance what he calls Precision Global Health - ensuring that interventions reach the right people at the right time.

His passion for education has also reached far beyond Geneva. Through his online courses on Coursera, he has helped build capacity for hashtag not only for SSPH+ students but also in refugee camps and underserved communities around the world.

Antoine leaves behind a legacy of innovation, generosity, and inspiration within SSPH+. He will be greatly missed, but his impact will continue to guide us as we look to the future.

Thank you Antoine for everything,
Your SSPH+

📊 Today wrapped up the advanced course "Missing Data in Observational Epidemiologic Studies - Including Non-Detects", led by Prof. Martin Röösli and Dr. Jan Hattendorf at Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute.

Over three intensive days (1–3 July 2025), participants tackled key challenges in handling missing data, including selection bias, non-detects, and censored values - all within the powerful R environment.

The course combined lectures with hands-on coding sessions, giving participants the chance to apply techniques directly to real-world datasets.

Last Friday, we celebrated a defining moment in the journey of the Swiss Learning Health System (SLHS) - a pioneering initiative that brought research, policy, and practice together to advance health care through continuous learning and collaboration.

The final event was opened by Dr. Sarah Mantwill (University of Lucerne) and the event featured dynamic sessions including:
🔹 An inspiring keynote by Prof. Charles Friedman (University of Michigan), a global authority on Learning Health Systems
🔹 SSPH+ Academic Director, Prof. Luca Crivelli (University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland), together with Natalie Messerli (University of Lucerne) presented some key SLHS activities & achievements
🔹 A “newsroom” showcase of SLHS projects addressing real-world health policy challenges
🔹 A hands-on simulation of SLHS stakeholder dialogues — showing how participatory discussion drives real impact
🔹 A future-focused panel on Health2040 (https://zurl.co/G9t5e) and the transformation of primary care

We are also proud that SSPH+ Foundation Board President, Prof. Milo Puhan (University of Zurich, Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Prevention Institute) officially launched Smarter Health Care, the next chapter in Swiss health services research, and we are looking forward to working together, promoting exchange between stakeholders, and creating opportunities for joint learning!
