Applications are now open for the SSPH+ Lugano Summer School (LSS) in Public Health Policy, Economics, and Management 2026 Scholarships Programme!

To support the public health workforce in tackling today’s challenges, the Swiss Plexus Programme is offering online, hub, full onsite, and partial onsite scholarships to attend the SSPH+ LSS 2026, taking place 17–22 August in Lugano and online.

Lecture Series: 40 Years of the Ottawa Charter in Switzerland – Health Promotion in Transition

Tuesday, 27 January 2026 | 12:00–1:00 p.m. (CET)

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion—an important milestone for public health. To celebrate this occasion, SSPH+ together with the Special Interest Group on Health Promotion and Prevention of Public Health Schweiz and Gesundheitsförderung Schweiz is organizing a public lecture series (Ringvorlesung). Across nine online lunchtime sessions held throughout the year, leading experts will explore key developments, current challenges, and future perspectives in health promotion.

The opening online webinar, “40 Years of the Ottawa Charter: Reflections, Developments and Current Challenges,” will feature Ilona Kickbusch, Thomas Mattig, and Thomas Steffen. Registration is now open for the 35th SSPH+ Lugano Summer School (LSS) in Public Health Policy, Economics, and Management

For over 30 years, the SSPH+ LSS has brought together practitioners, researchers, and students from around the world for a unique, collaborative learning experience. Guided by the principle of mutual learning for change, the LSS is a global platform where education, innovation, and collaboration come together with the main aim of advancing global public health.

The 2026 programme features 12 highly interactive courses, 2 plenaries, and several networking events, all designed to foster reflection, exchange, and the development of transformational ideas.

Early bird registration is available until 1 May. Fees vary depending on participation mode and participant category, with reduced rates available for specific groups. Full details on courses, fees, and registration guidelines are available on our website.

Last Friday, we gathered in Basel for an energizing and insightful day with Carl Emerson (InsideOut Solutions), exploring what real influence truly means in leadership - grounded in trust, authenticity, and presence. 💫

Throughout the day, participants discovered how influence extends far beyond persuasion – it’s about connection, emotional awareness, and the subtle dynamics that shape how we show up as leaders. We enjoyed great conversations, hands-on exercises, and a wonderful learning atmosphere in Basel.

A huge thank you to all participants for your openness, energy, and willingness to explore the vulnerability edge of leadership. 🙏

This course was part of the SSPH+ Emerging Health Leaders: Skills Training and Leadership Courses series, designed to strengthen the next generation of health leaders through transformative learning experiences.

SSPH+ thanks Antoine Flahault 💫

At the recent SSPH+ Directorate retreat in Geneva, we marked an important moment: the last session with Prof. Antoine Flahault as a member of the Swiss School of Public Health (SSPH+) Directorate. Antoine is now moving to Paris to take up a new position as Full Professor at Paris City University.

While we are sad to see him leave, we are deeply grateful for the energy, vision, and dedication he has shared with SSPH+. We warmly thank him for his invaluable contributions and wish him every success in this exciting new chapter.

About Antoine Flahault

Antoine has been a driving force in shaping public health both in Switzerland and internationally. A medical doctor with a PhD in biomathematics, he pioneered the field of digital epidemiology, developing innovative tools such as FluNet, which became a cornerstone of global influenza surveillance during the 2009 H1N1 pandemic.

Since 2014, as Professor at the University of Geneva and founding director of the Institute of Global Health - UNIGE at Campus Biotech, Antoine has brought together hashtag , life sciences, and social sciences to advance what he calls Precision Global Health - ensuring that interventions reach the right people at the right time.

His passion for education has also reached far beyond Geneva. Through his online courses on Coursera, he has helped build capacity for hashtag not only for SSPH+ students but also in refugee camps and underserved communities around the world.

Antoine leaves behind a legacy of innovation, generosity, and inspiration within SSPH+. He will be greatly missed, but his impact will continue to guide us as we look to the future.
