Years ago when a friend recommended I go to see her new nutritionist, she showed me a list of foods that she had been given in the meeting. This was a list of foods she should eat more.

The Wall Street Journal published this article on dairy consumption and how the U.S. FDA is looking at making changes to nutrition advice going forwards.

While its helpful to know the U.S. government agrees you may be better off without its current guideline of three dairy servings a day, and other governments already have lower guidance levels, the most important thing to learn is how your body reacts to dairy and whether it may be beneficial or potentially harmful to your individual body systems.

Some people have a genetic makeup that prevents production of the enzyme that breaks down lactose, others have become lactose intolerant over the years due to imbalances in the gut, and others eat dairy easily, receiving good nutrients from it.

If you have questions about your own ability to consume dairy, consulting a registered nutritional therapist or other health practitioner with appropriate training is advisable. In the meantime, listen to your body and eat foods that nourish it well.

A fight is brewing over how much dairy is good for you

Remember getting lost in the buttercups as a child? We used to put them under our chins to see if the yellow reflected. It was supposed to mean something- but I can’t remember what anymore.
Take a moment to get lost in something today - if it‘s in nature, even better!

Dietary cholesterol and why it’s ok to keep eating it.

This is a quick article from CNN that does a great job of explaining why cholesterol is important (production of s*x steroid hormones, cell membranes and converting sunlight to vitamin D, among other things), how saturated fat contributes to LDL cholesterol levels in the body, and the egg (contains cholesterol but low saturated fat).

In college I did an econometrics project on egg consumption in the United States and how it dramatically changed when reports eating cholesterol was contributing to the nation’s cardiovascular disease epidemic, so I always like articles that once again reiterate that eggs are not ‘bad’ to eat.

Hope you enjoy this bit of information on this sunny Sunday. Enjoy your eggs this morning, but maybe hold of on the hollandaise 🙂

What everyone gets wrong about cholesterol in food https://www.cnn.com/2021/04/23/health/cholesterol-versus-saturated-fat-wellness/index.html

What you eat can play an important role in maintaining cardiovascular health, and it's reasonable to think that eating cholesterol-laden foods will raise your cholesterol levels. But the connection isn't quite that simple.

Wow. To eat fish or not to eat fish?
As a nutritional therapist I recommend eating smaller oily fish to get omega 3 fatty acids, but what is the cost to our world, and ultimately ourselves? And do we even know?
Thought provoking for sure - a definite must watch film.
