Laboratorio de Función y Reactividad Vascular - LFRV

Laboratorio de Función y Reactividad Vascular - LFRV Our aim is studying the Cardiovascular adaptations to perinatal hypoxia and oxidative stress (systemic, cellular and molecular mechanisms).

Vascular adaptations to perinatal hypoxia and oxidative stress. Our Laboratory (Laboratory of Vascular Function and Reactivity) is interested in the effects of acute and chronic hypoxia and oxidative stress during gestation. Specifically, we are focused in the cardiovascular effects on the fetus, neonate and adult (immediate, short and long-lasting effects) and the determinant adaptive mechanisms.

Our ongoing experimental models study pathologies associated with cardiac and vascular dysfunctions such as neonatal pulmonary hypertension, adult systemic hypertension and pre-eclampsia. In addition, we are assessing potential therapeutic interventions with antioxidants, vasodilators and anti-remodeling agents to treat vascular dysfunction. Our research involves an integrative approach with systemic (in vivo), isolated organs-tissues (ex vivo), and cellular and molecular (in vitro) methodologies.

Well done Esteban et al....bravo!!!

Gestational chronic hypoxia impacts prenatal development, leading to fetal growth restriction (FGR), defined as the fetus’s failure to reach its genetic growth potential. Postnatal hypoxia in the cerebral tissue can induce a redox imbalance and mitochondrial dysfunction, consequently increasing ne...

Interesad@s contactarme eaherrera@uchile.cl.

Sponsorship for FONDECYT 2024 postdoctoral grants (ANID Chile) for researchers interested in deciphering the mechanisms involved in cardiovascular programming and aging induced by chronic hypoxia during pregnancy. Great opportunity to learn and implement an integrative approach (in vivo, ex vivo, in vitro, in silico) in a pleasant and challenging scientific environment. If you are interested, contact me eaherrera@uchile.cl.
