Here is how to clean your baby's umbilical Cord

1. Wash Your Hands: Start with clean hands.
2. Gather Supplies: You’ll need a cotton ball or soft cloth and warm water.
3. Clean Gently: Dampen the cotton ball, then wipe from the cord stump toward the skin.
4. Keep Dry: Allow the stump to air dry and avoid submerging in water and covering it in the diaper.
5. Watch for Signs: Look for any redness or discharge, a yellowish or greenish discharge with an awful smell might indicate an infection.

Remember, patience is key! The stump usually falls off within 1-3 weeks.

Some reasons why your doctor might request for an emergency C-section

1. Baby's position or presentation: If the baby is presenting with the feet or laying horizontally, a C-section may be necessary to ensure a safe delivery.

2. Fetal Distress: If the baby shows signs difficult breathing during labor, such as too strong or too weak heart rate a C-section may be needed.

3. Multiple Births: In cases of twins, triplets or more babies , a C-section is often recommended due to the increased risk of complications that come with such births.

4. Maternal Health Issues: Conditions such as placenta previa, where the placenta covers the cervix, or other serious health concerns (e.g., preeclampsia , eclampsia diabetes) may necessitate a C-section for the safety of both mother and baby.

5. Previous C-section: If a mother has had a previous C-section, especially with a classical incision, a repeat C-section may be advised to avoid the risks associated with vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC).

6. Prolonged Labor: If labor does not progress adequately (failure to progress), a C-section may be performed to prevent complications for both the mother and baby.

7. Large Baby (Macrosomia): If the baby is significantly bigger than average, a C-section might be recommended to reduce the risk of birth injuries to both mother and child during delivery.

Note that the C- Section is a timely innovation that came to save the lives of millions of mothers and babies.
C-section is a normal delivery like a vaginal, stop belittling these women.
The priority of every midwife or doctor is for the mother and baby to be safe.

- Blood Bank:
Ensure the hospital has a fully operational blood bank. This is critical for any unforeseen complications that may arise during or after delivery.

- Operating Room:
Confirm the presence of an operating room. This is essential for emergency surgeries, such as cesarean sections, should the need arise.

- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (Nursery):
A hospital equipped with a Nursery is vital for newborns requiring special or intensive care. This ensures that your baby receives immediate attention if needed.

- Resuscitation Equipment:
Check that the hospital is equipped with oxygen and resuscitation equipment. These are very important to address any respiratory issues that may occur at birth.

- Transfer Accessibility:
If you find yourself in a smaller hospital, make sure it is easily accessible for a fast transfer to a larger hospital. The hospital should have a standby ambulance or means of transportation for emergencies.

HAVE YOU JUST HAD A BABY, ARE YOU CONSIDERING HAVING THE NEXT?

It's generally recommended to wait at least 18-24 months after a vaginal birth and 24-36 months after a cesarean delivery before becoming pregnant again. This allows your body to fully recover and reduces the risk of complications.

If you are thinking of having another baby sooner than the recommended period, here are some risks

1. Preterm Birth: Increased chance of labor starting at 6months or 7months.
2. Low Birth Weight: Higher risk for babies being born underweight.
3. Increased Stress : Both physical and emotional especially if you do not have a good support system .
4. *Uterine Rupture*: Picture an over inflated balloon that bursts, this is what might occur to your womb especially for those with previous cesarean sectios.
5. Increased Cesarean Delivery Risk: Higher chances of needing a cesarean section, which carries its own risks.
6. Anemia: Low blood levels can lead to fatigue and complications during pregnancy.
7. Postpartum Depression: Closer spacing of pregnancies may increase the risk of emotional challenges after birth.
8. Nutritional Deficiency: You just had a baby, the baby has taken most of the nutrients, you have to replenish, so having another baby make you deficient in essential nutrients.

Rihanna is having back-to-back births, possible Yes!
But it come with risk and you might just be the unfortunate one.

Always consult your healthcare provider for the best advice on a family planning method.

WHEN SHOULD YOU START BRUSHING YOUR BABY'S TEETH
📌 YOU ONLY STOP WHEN THEY ARE OLD ENOUGH AND KNOW ENOUGH TO TAKE CHARGE.

💚 Start Oral Care from Birth 💚
Let’s begin with oral care from the beginning, emphasizing the transition from Cleaning to Brushing.

✅ From Birth (0–6 Months)✅
- Start with Gum Care.
- Always clean the baby’s gums after each feeding.

📌 How?
- Use a damp soft cloth or sterile gauze wrapped around the finger with lukewarm boiled water (cooled down to a safe temperature).

📌 Why?
- This practice helps remove bacteria, allows the baby to get used to oral care, and prepares the mouth for the first tooth.

✅ When the First Tooth Appears (Around 6 Months to 1 Year)✅
- Start Brushing!

📌 How?
- Use a baby toothbrush with soft bristles and
- a fluoride toothpaste the size of a grain of RICE.

📌 Frequency:
- Brush twice daily, in the morning and before bed.

🦷 Note: At this stage, the parent or caregiver should brush.

✅ From Age 1–3 Years ✅
- Continue Brushing
- Brush twice a day.
- Use a RICE-sized amount of toothpaste.
- Use a soft toothbrush designed for toddlers.

🦷 Note:
- An adult should perform the brushing in a fun, playful, and enjoyable way.

✅ From Age 3–6 Years ✅
- Supervised Tooth-Brushing

📌 Let Them Try:
- Children can start brushing with assistance, but the adult should finish the job to ensure proper cleaning.

- By this time, increase the toothpaste to a PEA-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste and an appropriate soft toothbrush.

- Begin teaching them the reasons why they need to brush!

✅ By Ages 6–8 Years ✅
- Children can brush independently with supervision.

📌 Teach Them the Why:
- Explain the importance of oral health and establish routines (after breakfast and before bedtime).

💚 Key Information 💚

- Always use fluoride toothpaste and appropriate toothbrushes.

- Visit the dentist by your child’s first birthday or when the first tooth appears.
