When you notice that they like doing the things they used to do when they were younger, and it's not harmful to them let them do it.

For instance, an elderly woman in her 80s who used to like makeup in her youthful age, And she still enjoys beautifying her face even at an old age. Please let her do it as long as it makes her happy and doesn't cause harm

Please if they can still do it ,let them do it.
If your elderly one can still wash their clothes or prepare their own , perform some activities for themselves please let them do it.
Trying to do everything for them will not is not helping,rather it will make them feel dependent and sad.
Just watch over them while they perform these activities that make them happy .

Watch out for falls.
