Empowering Community Leaders through Gender Transformative Education*

Some leaders of the Muea community have been drilled on the importance of Gender Transformative Education.

Organised by NADEV, the one day workshop aimed to equip community leaders with the knowledge and skills necessary to reduce barriers found in communities hindering adolescent girls in accessing and carrying on with school, promote gender equality and social change.

Our esteemed NADEV staff led the insightful sessions on: Barriers/mitigation affecting adolescent girls, safeguarding and child protection, prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse, mental health and psychosocial support.

Participants engaged in action planning to provide feedback, ensuring a comprehensive and impactful experience. By empowering community leaders, NADEV is putting up all necessary measures across all sectors in promoting adolescent girls explore their potentials and contributing to a more equitable and just society.

Gender Transformative Education for a Brighter Future

Some school Administrators and teachers from GSS Kang Barombi and GBHS Muea gathered for a comprehensive training on Gender Transformative Education (GTE).

This capacity-building initiative aimed to equip educators with the knowledge and skills necessary to create a safe, inclusive, and conducive learning environment for adolescent girls.

Key highlights of the training included: reducing barriers to adolescent girls’ education, Safeguarding and child protection, Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS).

By integrating these components, educators will be better equipped to promote gender equality, challenge harmful gender stereotypes, foster a culture of respect and create an enabling school milieu for these girls to explore their potentials.

NADEV Joins Global Efforts to Combat GBV

As the world observes the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV), NADEV took to the streets of the Muea neighborhood in Buea on December 5, 2024, to raise awareness about this pressing issue.

This year's theme:
"Orange the World: End Violence against Women Now!", was at the forefront of NADEV's sensitization campaign, which aimed to educate community members about the devastating effects of GBV and the importance of reporting cases of GBV.

The activity was well-received, with some community members committing to report any instances of GBV. This pledge demonstrates the power of community-led initiatives in preventing GBV.

These efforts are part of a global movement, with numerous NGOs around the world working tirelessly to eradicate GBV. Together, we can create a safer, more equitable world for all.

NADEV Holds AGM, Charts Future Growth

NADEV convened its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday 27th November at the NADEV conference room, reviewing successes and challenges.

Despite achieving over 50% of its objectives, insufficient funding opportunities posed a significant hurdle to the full realisation of her objectives says Mr Nkegoa Martin, president of the Board.

To fully achieve its ojectives, the association will continue fundraising efforts through proposal writing, he added.

A major milestone of this year's AGM was the formation of a 7-member Board of Trustees, paving the way for NADEV's registration and recognition of the NGO status.
This development seeks to enhance NADEV's impact and sustainability.

NADEV Boosts Project Writing Skills

On October 2024, NADEV invited education Policy makers, school administrators, teachers, traditional leaders, community stakeholders and partners to a one-day inception meeting to a project entitle “Enhancing Gender Transformative Education in South West Cameroon”. The meeting was geared towards raising the awareness of these stakeholders on the barriers to adolescent girls’ education, draw their attention on gender responsive education and to give the adolescent girls the opportunity to explore their potentials. It was a period of experience sharing as these stakeholders shared their view points towards gender transformative education and looked forward in promoting it in schools and communities.

We are on the ground in Fontem Health District, distributing life-saving drugs thanks to the GC7 Grants, of which NADEV is a sub-recipient from Out Cameroon.

Our team has been working tirelessly alongside CHWs to reach 8 health areas: Azi, Attach, Fonjumetaw, Fotabong, Mbetta, Menji, Njungo, and Takwai. With subsidized medication and malaria testing, we're making a real difference in people's lives. It's been a hectic few weeks, but the smiles on our patients' faces make it all worthwhile.

6 weeks of focused learning at the sandpit community. The NADEV team incorporated the TARL approach, and over 43 kids took giant leaps in literacy and numeracy. With the main aim of the approach being to tailor education to every child's unique pace, saw kids make great progress with numbers and reading.

The Parents were so thrilled with the progress!
one parent shared, " My child struggled with reading but now reads short sentences!"
Another shared, " place values were a challenge but now y child gets it!"

We are so proud of our little learners.

🌍 Education Cannot Wait's (ECW) multi-year resilience program, implemented by a consortium of six organizations including UNESCO, UNICEF, UNHCR, Plan International, NRC & WFP. UNESCO is dedicated to improving access to education for children affected by crises. As part of their objectives, ECW recently organized a five-day workshop titled "Training of Facilitators and Supervisors in the Supervision of e-learning for disadvantaged children in Temporary Learning Spaces (TLS)".

✨ In April 2023, a three-day workshop with the theme "Supervision of e-learning for disadvantaged children in temporary learning spaces" was held. NADEV was one of the invited organizations that participated. This year in 2024, another two-day workshop took place in Douala focusing on "Supervision of children for learning through radio and other media". The workshop brought together education actors and NGOs (including NADEV) who were trained on E-learning practices, learning via radio platforms, INEE minimum standards implementation methods, and Child Protection in Emergencies strategies.

Together with ECW and its partners, we are committed to ensuring all children have access to quality education regardless of crisis situations.

To empower local NGOs in various sectors, equipping them with the tools they need to thrive and make a lasting impact on the communities they serve especially in the Educational sector.🙌

Covering everything from policies to finance, organization development to resource mobilization, data mapping, and beyond!
📚💼 Together with government officials and passionate organizations, the project was launched that promises an incredible journey towards transformative change.
