📍Protect Our Children: Smoke-Free Spaces Matter 👶👧🧒

Children’s bodies are still growing, and cigarette smoke can seriously harm their health—even if they aren’t the ones smoking.

❗ Smoking near children can:
• Damage their developing lungs
• Trigger asthma and breathing problems
• Increase ear infections and chest illnesses
• Raise the risk of sudden infant death (SIDS)
• Leave harmful chemicals on clothes and furniture (thirdhand smoke)

💙 There is no safe level of smoke exposure for children.

Let’s choose clean air and healthy futures.
If you smoke, please do so away from children and their environments.

Alert: Protect Our Children’s Health 🌞

During the dry season, children are more vulnerable to certain illnesses due to dust, dry air, heat, and reduced water intake. As pediatric nurses, awareness and prevention are key 💙

🔴 Common Childhood Diseases in the Dry Season:

🤧 Respiratory Infections
• Coughs, colds, sore throat, pneumonia
• Caused by dust, cold nights, and dry air

💨 Asthma & Allergies
• Dust triggers wheezing and breathing difficulty

💧 Dehydration
• Leads to fatigue, dizziness, and dry mouth

🦠 Diarrheal Diseases
• Due to poor water quality and hygiene

👀 Eye Infections (Conjunctivitis)
• Dust and poor hand hygiene increase risk

🌡️ Skin Problems
• Dry skin, rashes, and eczema flare-ups

🛡️ Prevention Tips for Parents:
✔ Encourage plenty of fluids
✔ Reduce dust exposure
✔ Practice good hand hygiene
✔ Keep children warm at night
✔ Seek medical care early

Healthy children, brighter futures 🌈

THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT READ FOR EVERYONE...
Especially for pregnant women, new mothers, fathers, and caregivers.

There’s a common but dangerous belief that throwing a baby in the air, shaking them to calm down, or over-teasing them during play is harmless fun. But these actions can cause serious harm.

Let’s talk about something called Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS); a form of brain injury that happens when a baby or young child is violently shaken or their head is je**ed forcefully.

Actions that can lead to SBS include:
• Throwing a baby up “playfully”
• Shaking a baby out of frustration
• Playing roughly or teasing to the point of excessive vibration

Why it’s dangerous:
• A baby’s neck muscles are not strong enough to support their head
• Shaking causes the brain to move within the skull
• This can lead to brain bleeding, swelling, permanent damage, blindness, or even death.

If your baby won’t stop crying or you feel overwhelmed, it’s okay to gently place them in a safe spot and take a moment to breathe.
NEVER shake a baby, NOT even for a second.

And never allow anyone— no matter how well-meaning— to play rough or shake your baby to “calm” them.

Shaken Baby Syndrome is preventable. Protect the child.💙
