Umbilical cord care‼️‼️

The umbilical cord is a tube-like structure that links the mother and baby during pregnancy for nourishment, oxygenation and elimination of waste.

After birth, this tube is clamped and cut off. And the baby will depend on the external environment.

The umbilical cord can be a port of entry for bacteria if not well taken care of.

🍂Always remember to keep the umbilical cord dry.

🍂Always keep the umbilical cord out of the diaper

🍂It's advisable to clean the cord with the product that the hospital has prescribed.

🍂The umbilical cord usually dries up and falls off within one to two weeks, do not attempt to drag it off.

🍂In case of bleeding or any form of discharge please inform the health care team immediately.

WORLD AIDS DAY ‼️

AlDS is the most advanced form of HIV.

It Kills those who do not take treatment, because the disease destroys the cells that fight against infection.
If you you have AIDS, it will be difficult for you to recover from any illness.

It's Transmitted through ;

Sexual in*******se with infected partners whose viral load is detectable

From mother to baby if measures are not taken during delivery or a mother who refuses to take treatment during pregnancy.

Exchanging needles with infected partners.

An infected mother can transmit to her baby through breastfeeding if she is not taking anti retro viral and the baby is not also on treatment.

You can get the disease through infected equipment used to draw a tattoo on your body.

Ladies in the salon please get personal equipment or be sure that it's disinfected before used on you, if an infected one pricks your head then you are at risk.

I could go on 👋
No matter how it can be contracted,

There is good news 🤗

HIV on its on doesn't kill, today we have antiretrovals in most health facilities around us that helps bring you back your immune system to normal

What you need to do is;

‼️Each time you get exposed to the virus by any means, go to the health facility before 24hrs, you will be given drugs for prevention and a RDV for the test

Endeavor to take a test every three months.

If your test is positive, it can be normal for you to panic but always remember that a good life awaits you if you take your drugs normally, at a certain point your test will be undetectable meaning you cannot transmit it to your partner or baby during dilivery.

The team of this year is " LET COMMUNITIES LEAD"

Let's suppose that all infected individuals decide to take their drugs effectively, this will mean that in Less than a year this people will not be able to transmit it and that will be the end💃

Let's not stigmatise people leaving with HIV/AIDS, you never know how they got it. Be compationate towards them, encourage them to take their drugs normally, that is also a preventive method for. You are a community, the person you know leaving with the disease might seem far from you, but your sibling, spouse or Child might one day be involved in an accident or in any kind of contact that could lead to transmission and you will be directly involved whereas if you encrouged that person to take his or her drugs it would have ended there

If you know any body around you that is infected and not taking drugs, just know that it's your responsibility for that person to start treatment, go to the nearest hospital and get a specialist that will help the person, you could do this even without the the person's knowledge

Together let's fight against HIV and AIDS

An infected couple can have birth healthy babies,

There is hope 💪

Happy world AIDS DAY to you who is HIV positive and taking treatment, I know you are happy That you took the best decision. To you who is is not for fear of the unknown or just too angry about the situation I encourage you to start your treatment now and and trust me,

Before this time next your your viral load will be undetectable.

If you're results are negative, prevention should be your daily bread.

NEONATAL JAUNDICE

I grew up with the mentality that jaundice(yellowing of the skin) in New borns is caused by yellow dresses, so pregnant women in my area didn't put on or buy yellow dresses for their unborn babies for fear of neonatal jaundice 🤔

Well let's look and the link between the two.

Neonatal jaundice (yellowing of the new born's skin) is a medical condition caused by the accumulation of bilirubin in the blood from the break down of red blood cells.

Bilirubin is a yellow substance produced from the breakdown of red blood cells that carry oxygen round the body.

Jaundice is common in neonates because they have a high number of red blood cells that are broken and replaced immediately. Another reason is that their livers are not fully developed so not effective at eliminating bilirubin.

Within the first 72 ours, jaundice is not harmful, it may eventually go away without treatment.

Jaundice developing after 72hours needs further investigation and treatment.

Asides the yellowing of the skin, you can notice pale yellow stool or dark yellow Urine.

In dark or brown skin babies, you can earlsily notice jaundice from the palms and soles.

Jaundice can be treated using ;
phototherapy which uses a special type of light on the neonates skin that alters the bilirubin into a form that can be more easily broken down by the liver

Or

Exchange transfusion

Always observe your baby closely 💓

There is no link between Jaundice and yellow dresses.

❤️Breast Hygiene For Breastfeeding mothers ❤️❤️

Care of the breast is very important for all mothers who are breastfeeding because it carries the baby's nutrients and the baby depends solely on it.

Do not use cotton and spirit to clean the breast because it might stick on it and the baby will consume. Spirit is not consumable hence should not be applied where the baby feeds from.

Rather use mineral water with a clean cloth or sterile gauze to clean the breast all the time before breastfeeding the breast.

Wash your hands thoroughly before before breastfeeding.

Frequently change your breast pad.

Have a bath Atleast two times a day.

Preferably go for white, blue or pink colors for bras, baby clothes etc so that you can easily notice a change if something goes wrong. Example, if breast milk becomes
abnormal and changes color because of an infection , you won't notice it on a black or red breast pad.

To avoid cracked ni***es or bleeding from the ni***es, position your baby properly on the breast, so that he/she shouldn't be pulling on it. Do not breastfeed from a distance, bring the baby closer to the breast making sure the baby traps most part of the ar**la into the mouth and not just the ni**le.

And when you get that hissing sound when the baby is latching, just know the the position is not ok.

Don't forget to burp your baby after breastfeeding

About your baby's fontanels ( the soft spots ) 🧏‍♀️🧏‍♀️🧏‍♀️

Are you amongst those who are bothered about why the soft spot on your baby's head is pulsating?
Asking yourself if it's normal or not?

Have you ever been told to put anything thing on it for it to stop and close up, and you've tried to no avail? 🙄

Let's hear this🤗🤗

A new born's skull normally has two main fontanels that the human eye can easily see; to the front (anterior fontanel), to the back(posterior fontanel). The soft spot in front is usually larger than the one at the back and closes up around 18 months while the soft spot at the back may close up around 6 to 8weeks.

They are normal like other parts of the body and should be handled with care.

These soft spots help the bony structures of the head to compress and overlap so the head can pass through te narrow birth canal during delivery. They also help your baby's skull to expand making room for the rapid brain growth that occurs during the first year.

It also helps to determine the wellness of your baby, e.g a sunken anterior soft sport might be a sign that your baby is dehydrated.

There is no need to apply pressure or several "concoctions " to aid its closure. Handle it gently at all times.

And if you notice that it is sunken or bulging out rather than pulsating, then you need to seek health care.
