KNOW THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF DEFORMATION OF THE VISION 👌
The term "eye deformation" is generally used in a broad sense to cover various conditions where the eye's shape or structure is abnormal. These conditions can be broadly grouped in different ways:
1. Refractive Errors (Related to Eyeball/Cornea Shape)
These are some of the most common "deformations" in terms of physical shape affecting vision:
👌 MYOPIA
(SHORT-SIGHTEDNESS): The eyeball is typically too long from front to back, or the cornea is too curved.
👌 HYPEROPIA (LONG-SIGHTEDNESS): The eyeball is typically too short, or the cornea is too flat.
👌 ASTIGMATISM: The cornea or the lens is curved more like a football than a sphere, causing distorted vision at all distances.
2. Congenital Anomalies (Malformations and Deformations)
These are structural abnormalities that occur during fetal development. They are sometimes categorized as malformations (a primary defect in structure) or deformations (a distortion of an otherwise normal structure by a physical force, often prenatally).
Key types include:
👌Anophthalmia: Complete absence of one or both eyeballs.
👌 Microphthalmia: Abnormally small eyeballs.
👌 Coloboma: A gap or cleft in a structure of the eye, such as the iris, retina, or optic nerve.
👌 Cyclopia: A rare condition where the orbits and eyes are fused, resulting in a single eye.
👌 Aniridia: Complete or partial absence of the iris.
👌 Abnormal Inter-Eye Spacing:
👌 Hypertelorism: Widely spaced eyes.
👌 Hypotelorism: Closely spaced eyes.
3. Deformations of the Eyelids and Alignment
These involve the surrounding structures or the coordination of the eyes:
👌 Keratoconus: The cornea thins and bulges into a cone shape.
👌 Strabismus (Crossed Eyes): An imbalance in the positioning of the two eyes, causing them to point in different directions (inward, outward, up, or down).
👌 Esotropia (inward turning)
👌 Exotropia (outward turning)
👌 Hypertropia (upward turning)
👌 Hypotropia (downward turning)
👌 Ectropion: The eyelid turns outward, exposing the inner surface.
👌 Entropion: The eyelid turns inward, causing lashes to rub the eye.
👌 Ptosis: Drooping of the upper eyelid.
In summary, there is no single fixed number of "eye deformations" because the term covers a vast and detailed list of conditions affecting the eyeball, cornea, lens, and surrounding structures, classified in different ways by medical professionals.
