Cité Palmiers District Hospital: Notable Advances for Better Patient Care
In the era of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and in a context where improving healthcare is a national priority, the Cité Palmiers District Hospital now stands as an example of modernization and efficiency in service to the population.
Thanks to a vision driven by senior leadership, under the impetus of Dr. MANAOUDA MALACHIE, Minister of Public Health, and the supervision of the Littoral Regional Delegation of Public Health, numerous improvements have been made, both structurally and operationally. This is reflected in the many patients who pass through the hospital’s doors daily, assured of a more humane welcome, optimized care, and an enhanced healthcare environment.
A More Suitable and Secure Reception Environment
As the first point of contact for patients, the hospital has undergone a reorganization of its spaces: a better reception system, improved cleanliness in all departments, streamlined payment counters, and heightened security across the entire facility. Additionally, there has been a strong push in routine vaccination as prescribed by the Expanded Program on Immunization, carried out with rigor and professionalism.
A 24/7 Medicalized Ambulance Service
A much-appreciated new feature: the deployment of a fully equipped medicalized ambulance, operational 24/7, provided by senior health authorities. In case of an emergency, simply contact the hospital’s hotline (672 40 44 17), and a qualified team is immediately dispatched for a rapid, safe, and effective response.
Specialized Medical Care Now Accessible to All
To meet the growing demand for specialized consultations, a modern R+1 building was constructed using the hospital’s own funds, with approval from the Littoral Regional Health Delegation. This new wing now hosts consultations in Rheumatology, Pulmonology, ENT, Digestive and Visceral Surgery, Neurology, Dermatology, Gastroenterology, Gynecology, Antenatal Care (ANC), Postnatal Care (PNC), and Family Planning.
Additionally, other specialties are available to the public, including: Cardiology, Pediatrics, Urology, Ophthalmology, Dental and Oral Medicine, Hematology, Traumatology, Psychology, Dietetics, Physiotherapy, Pediatric Surgery, as well as Radiology, Medical Biology | Blood Bank, and Thanatopraxy (Morgue)—all reinforcing comprehensive and integrated patient care.
Strong Community and Institutional Commitment
These advancements would not have been possible without the renewed trust of health authorities, as well as the decisive support of the Douala 5th District Municipality and the Littoral Regional Council, in line with the transferred health responsibilities as defined in Article 20 of Decree No. 2021/743 of December 28, 2021, outlining the general terms for exercising transferred competencies to the regions:
"The Region contributes to the operation of public healthcare facilities through equipment provision, infrastructure maintenance support, and logistical and healthcare personnel assistance."
A Future-Oriented Vision
The Cité Palmiers District Hospital thus reaffirms its role as a cornerstone of the local healthcare system. On the eve of UHC’s nationwide rollout, it stands as a critical link in ensuring equitable access to care for all, in a humane, secure, and professional environment.
The public is therefore encouraged to make greater use of their local hospital and take advantage of its many services, now offered in a modernized setting committed to excellence.
