🌍 GHSS Strengthens Laboratory Management in DR Congo

Global Health Systems Solutions (GHSS) recently organized the second SLMTA (Strengthening Laboratory Management Toward Accreditation) workshop in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The training brought together 48 laboratory professionals from reference laboratories across Kinshasa, Haut-Katanga, and Lualaba, equipping them with essential skills to improve quality management systems and move their laboratories closer to ISO 15189 accreditation.

Held in Lubumbashi (Aug 25–28) and Kinshasa (Sept 8–12), this initiative was part of the PEPFAR-supported project, funded by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in collaboration with CDC DR Congo and the Directorate for Health Laboratories.

🌍 Empowering Lab Technicians in the DRC!

From September 22–24, 2025, Global Health Systems Solutions (GHSS) hosted a transformative training in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo, to strengthen the technical capacity of medical biology laboratory technicians in preventive maintenance and equipment management.

The workshop equipped participants to apply ISO 15189 maintenance principles, plan and monitor maintenance activities, and manage equipment inventories with proper documentation for traceability.

Through hands-on sessions on essential lab instruments — from centrifuges and pipettes to biological safety cabinets and microscopes — technicians collaborated in working groups to build practical skills and peer learning.

By the end, participants were empowered to reduce equipment downtime, extend equipment lifespan, and improve test reliability — strengthening laboratory systems across the DRC. 💪🔬

🌍 Renforcement des capacités des techniciens de laboratoire en RDC !

Du 22 au 24 septembre 2025, Global Health Systems Solutions (GHSS) a organisé une formation transformative à Lubumbashi, en République Démocratique du Congo, visant à renforcer les compétences techniques des techniciens de biologie médicale en maintenance préventive et gestion des équipements.

Cet atelier a permis aux participants d’appliquer les principes de maintenance conformes à la norme ISO 15189, de planifier et suivre les activités de maintenance, et de mieux gérer les inventaires d’équipements grâce à une documentation rigoureuse et traçable.

À travers des sessions pratiques sur les instruments essentiels — centrifugeuses, pipettes, hottes de sécurité biologique, microscopes, etc. — les techniciens ont travaillé en groupes pour développer leurs compétences et favoriser l’apprentissage entre pairs.

À la fin de la formation, les participants étaient outillés pour réduire les temps d’arrêt des équipements, prolonger leur durée de vie et améliorer la fiabilité des résultats de tests, contribuant ainsi au renforcement des systèmes de laboratoire à travers la RDC. 💪🔬

🌍 Empowering Community Health Workers in Cameroon!

From September 16–18, 2025, Global Health Systems Solutions (GHSS) joined forces with the MasterCard Foundation and YOWLI Burundi for a powerful Co-Creation Workshop in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

Together, we refined our joint proposal under the Young Africa Works program — focused on empowering Community Health Workers, especially young women, through dignified work and financial inclusion.

The workshop featured strategic planning, proposal reviews, and valuable insights from the Cameroonian Ministry of Public Health, helping align our goals with national health priorities.

- Greater alignment with national priorities

🌍 Autonomiser les Agents de Santé Communautaires au Cameroun !

Du 16 au 18 septembre 2025, Global Health Systems Solutions (GHSS) s’est associé à la Fondation MasterCard et à YOWLI Burundi pour un atelier de co-création inspirant à Yaoundé, Cameroun.

Ensemble, nous avons affiné notre proposition conjointe dans le cadre du programme Young Africa Works, axé sur l’autonomisation des agents de santé communautaires, en particulier des jeunes femmes, grâce à un travail digne et à l’inclusion financière.

L’atelier a réuni des séances de planification stratégique, de révision de propositions et des échanges enrichissants avec le Ministère de la Santé Publique du Cameroun, permettant d’aligner nos objectifs sur les priorités nationales de santé.

🌍✨ GHSS Hosts First-Ever Youth Innovation Challenge in Buea & Douala!

Global Health Systems Solutions (GHSS), with support from the Mastercard Foundation, proudly organized the first-ever Youth Innovation Challenge in Cameroon 🇨🇲 — held in Buea (Aug 28–30, 2025) and Douala (Sept 4–6, 2025).

Young innovators showcased groundbreaking ideas in Agri-Tech, Digital Solutions, Health & Wellbeing, and the Green Economy. From the Eru cutting machine and mental health consultancy in Buea, to Agric-Connect and Honeycomb in Douala, participants wowed the judges with their creativity and passion.

🏆 Winners walked away with cash prizes between 1,000,000 CFA – 3,500,000 CFA, awarded at a vibrant ceremony in Bonamoussadi, Douala, chaired by Madam Nelly Agoambin, GHSS Director of Operations. She urged youth to stay resilient and never give up in their business journeys.

But the challenge was more than a competition — it offered mentorship, investor connections, media visibility, and government engagement. Every participant gained tools, confidence, and inspiration to keep driving change in their communities. 💡🌱

This landmark event is part of GHSS’s mission to empower 15,000 young people across Cameroon, shaping the next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs.

🚴‍♂️💉 Strengthening Health Systems in Lualaba, DRC

From 5th – 7th August 2025, Global Health Systems Solutions (GHSS), in collaboration with the National AIDS Control Program and the National TB Program of Lualaba, conducted a capacity-building workshop in Kolwezi for personnel and motorcycle riders involved in sample transportation.

The training brought together participants from 14 health zones across Lualaba, equipping them with the knowledge and practical skills to safely and efficiently transport specimens—ensuring timely, reliable results and better patient care.

As part of the workshop, protective gear and essential logistics were provided to the riders, further supporting a secure and sustainable sample transport system.

This initiative forms part of the PEPFAR-funded grant to strengthen Integrated Laboratory Capacity and Quality Services in the DRC.

GHSS CQI Team on the Field 🚀

The Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) team of Global Health Systems Solutions recently carried out monitoring visits across regions implementing the Empowering Youths in Cameroon initiative.

Through field visits, focus group discussions, and feedback collection at VET centres, MSEs, and CIGs, the team assessed participant progress in the Education & Economic Empowerment Project (EEE-P).

Key insights pointed to the need for stronger mentoring, improved documentation, and earlier business planning. This mission reinforces our commitment to adaptive learning and evidence-based decision-making in advancing youth empowerment across Cameroon. 🌍✨
