Asthma is a life threatening condition affecting the respiratory tract characterised by bronchospasms, mucus production and inflammation of the bronchial airway.

There are of 2 types

1) Intrinsic asthma: Which is causes by non allergic trigers such as an infection or drugs.

2)Extrinsic Asthma: It is caused by allergens such as cold, animal danders, dust.

A) gastroschisis : which is characterised by herniation of the intestines out the abdominal wall but not enclosed by a thin sac.

B) Omphalocele : Which is characterised by the poking of abdominal organs via the abdominal wall to the outside of the belly. But there is a sac enclosing the herniated organs or tissues.

Osteoporosis is a metabolic age related disease condition characterised by a decrease in bone density which causes the bones to be brittle, fragile and liable to fractures.

-Etiology:

-Low calcium intake
-Iatrogenic cause with Steroidal Antiinflammatory drugs.
-lack of physical exercise.
-Avitaminosis D.

Diagnosis:

It can be diagnosed via
-Blood test to check for serum Ca levels which will be elevated.
-Bone scan will show increased porosity on the bone.
-X-rays
-CT scan

Treatment
A) Non pharmacological management :
-Exercise therapy
-Eat goo rich in Ca such as fish.

B) Pharmacological management :
-Use of calcium and vitamin D supplements.
-Bisphosphonates eg Ibandronate and etandronate.

DIC is a complex thrombo-haemorrhagic disorder occuring as a secondary complication to a systemic disease or infection.

The pathophysiology of DIC is made up of 4 phases:

1) Activation of coagulation pathways.
2) Thrombotic phase
3) Consumption phase.
4) fibrinolysis phase.

Clinical features of DIC.

There are 2 main features involves in a DIC:
-Bleeding which is normally severe.
-Organ damage. Which is due to ischaemia caused by the widespread intravascular thrombi. The most affected organs are the brain and the kidneys.

The lab findings will show the following :

-Low platelet count
-Raised FDPs(fibrin degradation products).
-prolonged prothrombin time.
-low plasma fibrin levels.
