Good day my Healthsavi people,

I, Dr Ngwashi Christabel have been away because of some career and geographical transitions I am making. I owe you this explanation because you are a community dear to my heart. Please give me about a month to settle in and also find a co-content creator who can work with me to produce health content.

If you have any suggestions of health personnel, especially those passionate about healthy living who can produce health content and are willing to learn how to communicate health facts in a relatable way, please tag them and we will reach out with the terms and conditions.

Meanwhile, I had a mini-checkup to see how my basic vitals are doing. Whenever I am in a period of high stress, I make sure to keep an eye on those because you may not know when they get to abnormal levels.

As we finish the last quarter of the year, please take some time to go for a checkup. There are ways to go about it if you dont have insurance; Group with friends and ask for a discount, ask your company to do a joint office checkup so the provider can give a discount, also you can start small by checking the basics while you save for the more expensive ones. Anything is better than nothing.

Please, tag a health professional you will love to see producing health content on this page!!

Have a wonderful weekend and stay healthy!!!

Is the statement 'fat runs in our family?' true?

It depends on the context. If you are using this as an excuse to remain overweight or obese and not make effort to lose body fat, then it's not.

But if you are using this to explain why it may be difficult to lose weight and the need for a more customized plan, then it's true.

There is a genetic predisposition to slow metabolism and fat storage. Some people may eat little and store fats more because of that genetic predisposition. It's not always about the eating habits. I am sure you know people who eat so much but will not increase in size. While others eat so little and increase in size.

In this case, it's important to guide the person into ways to improve their metabolism and burn fat faster while balancing calorie intake for weight loss.

Even if all of us ate the same and exercised the same, we will not all be the same size. So, be considerate when advising people to lose weight. It may be difficult for some.

Yes, you may have the genes that make it easy to gain weight and difficult to lose it but that does not mean you should not try. You need to talk to a professional who will guide you.

Ei clear or ei no clear?

This is one of the simplest ways to explain healthy eating. With all the contradictory nutritional advice online, I will advice you adhere to these. Unless you have a food allergy or a health condition that will make you avoid or limit certain foods, please adhere to these 3 principles;

- Eat more naturally grown foods and less industrially processed. That means your yams, plantains, vegetables, fruits, fish are healthier.

- Eat these foods in close to their natural state as possible with minimal addition of chemicals e.g boiled over frying in processed vegetable oils, whole fruits over juices. Even all these cooking processes like blanching vegetables, washing pap, peeling corn before grinding can reduce nutrients. Keep it as close to its original state as possible.

- Do not get overly attached or addicted to certain foods that you can't let go even if it's harmful to your health. Eat for nourishment of your cells.

'Do not ask a pregnant woman what she brings to the table.'

That statement hit differently. For a second, I forgot it was acting but what she said is important. Pregnancy and child birth is life threatening to a woman.

Women die, Women get blind, some lose their memories, some even get paralyzed in the process of bringing life. Their womb is alot to bring to the table.

Please be kind to pregnant women. Respect mothers and create a stress free space for them to thrive in the pregnancy.

Healthsavi Moms, What is that thing you lost as a result of pregnancy and child birth?

Does palm wine improve breast milk flow?

I know custodians of the culture, defenders of our ancestral practices and president of African Grandmothers Association are waiting for my answer. 🤣🤣

Well, scientifically, it does not. Yess, I know you did it and it worked for you but I know countless women who also drank gallons of palm wine and nothing came out.

Breastmilk will come with continuous suckling of the baby except there is a situation where we have to prescribe drugs to help milk flow. Generally, drinking lots of fluids will help to improve milk flow reason we cook lots of peppersoup for new mothers. So, the fluid in palm wine could also help it.

Palm wine just within hours of tapping, ferments and contains about 4% alcohol. This alcohol can pass through breastmilk and get to the baby making them drowsy and even drunk depending on the quantity. So please, palm wine as a breastfeeding mother is not all that safe.

Dear mama, there are foods and drinks that have been researched and shown to improve milk flow. We will talk about them tomorrow.

I know you will still go on to do what you want but it is good you know this so that whatever action you are taking is informed because you are .

Is that okay??

PS; I don't own rights to the video.

These are some exercises you can do when living with PCOS.

If you can, please get a trainer who understands PCOS to guide you. You dont want to train too vigorously that it will increase stress hormone.

Exercise is a very important tool you should leave out when managing PCOS.

Which of these will you be doing?

26/07/2023

I said 5 and gave 10 snack ideas that are good for PCOS.

That is my problem, I always over deliver because I love you people too much. I want you people to still enjoy while staying healthy.

This is not to say these are the only options ohh. But you get the basis of snacking right? Do not eat naked carbs, eat whole foods, add some healthy fat or protein to slow glucose release.

Remember, you body is the best judge! If you eat and you see it worsens your symptoms, it's time to have a rethink, drop it or modify how, when or with what you take that snack.
