When a woman is giving birth, and her belly becomes very hard, swollen, and raised like this on the picture , it is not normal. It can be a sign that something very bad is happening inside her womb. This condition is called uterine rupture. Uterine rupture means that the womb has torn open from too much pressure or stress during labour.

This problem mostly happens when:

The woman had a surgery on her womb before, like a previous cesarean operation (CS).

Labour is too long and too hard, but the baby is not coming out.

They delay going to the hospital after the labour pain starts.

They take strong traditional herbs or dangerous medicine to force labour.

If the womb tears, it is very dangerous.

The baby may not survive inside the womb.

The mother can bleed heavily and even may not survive too if doctors don’t act fast.

It can cause permanent damage to the woman’s body.

When you notice the belly is very hard, funny shaped, and you have serious pain during labour, you must rush to the hospital immediately! Delay can cause death for mother and child.

Advice to all women:

Always register for antenatal care in a hospital, not just traditional places.

If you had CS before, never delay labour at home.

Don’t take herbs or drugs to "force" labour.

When labour pain starts, move quickly to where trained doctors and midwives are available.

Do you know that during dialysis, blood is removed from the body through the red tube, passed through the dialysis machine, and then reintroduced into the body through the blue tube.

This process is repeated for four hours while the patient remains immobile in bed.

The procedure is carried out three times a week, which results in twelve times a month, and each time it takes four hours, which results in a total of forty-eight hours a month.

For those not affected, this process of flushing your kidneys occurs automatically 36 times every day with zero effort or discomfort.

Always be grateful for what you have.
Always Be thankful for the gift of Life.

Our love and prayers are with all going through a health crisis. God bless and strengthen you❤

THE THIRD STAGE OF LABOR - DELIVERY OF THE PLACENTA

After the birth of your baby, its not over. The delivery of your placenta follows.

Within 30 minutes after birth the placenta should separate and be delivered.

It's a very critical time and if not well managed can lead to serious complications like bleeding which is life threatening.

The placenta has membranes covering it, lobes that faces the mum(maternal surface) and a smooth part that faces the baby. The cord has two arteries and a vein.

Don't leave your pregnancy to chance🙏🙏🙏🙏

HYPEREMESIS GRAVIDARUM DURING PREGNANCY

This is one of the most difficult conditions that occur during pregnancy.

Its believed to be caused by increasing level of human Chorionic Gonadotropic Hormone. (HCG)

It is characterised by severe nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. You may vomit more than four times a day, become dehydrated, feel constantly dizzy and lightheaded and lose weight

The woman vomits every food and water she takes

She may not even be able to stand smell of food

This situation can be really difficult.

It is different from morning sickness as the woman can use little things like food, mint etc to control morning sickness. She may even be able to eat later in the day. It also stops by 12 weeks

This condition is not supposed to be managed at at home as it can lead to serious complications

The woman will need fluid replacement therapy with intravenous infusions, some medications to reduce the vomiting and if there is an underlying condition it will be treated.

It may reduce by 16 to 20 weeks but some unfortunately will have to manage the condition till delivery.

There is treatment and it can be managed. Dont stay home if you have been vomiting for several times in a day and nothing stay down there

Have you ever experienced this? How were you managed?
Please share your experience in the comments section so others will learn🙏🙏🙏🙏

WHAT IS A WEAK CERVIX? (CERVICAL INSUFFICIENCY)

Let me use everyday language

When your doctor says your cervix is weak whilst you are pregnant, this is what he is saying

The cervix is the opening of the uterus

When you are pregnant it has to be firm and closed.

This will help maintain the pregnancy (cervical sufficiency)

On the other hand if it is weak, it's length shortens, it is easily taken up, meaning it can easily open with little pressure. (Cervical insufficiency)

When this happens when your pregnancy grows and it becomes heavy. The little pressure can lead to an abortion.

If you have had previous miscarriages in your second trimester. Speak to your doctor before your next pregnancy

If a weak cervix is detected earlier a cerclage will be done to prevent a spontaneous abortion.

Causes may vary, speak to your doctor about it.

RHESUS INCOMPATIBILITY

After your first pregnancy or miscarriage you need to check your rhesus factor. If you are negative and baby is positive you need anti D or Rhogam . This prevents your subsequent pregnancies from complications and possible miscarriages due to incompatibility. Always make sure you check at the hospital if its your first pregnancy or first abortion. Its also needed after a miscarriage if you are rhesus negative.

Let me add that if both father and mother are rhesus negative there is no need for the anti D. Its important for both partners to know their rhesus factor

Speak to your doctor or midwife About your Rhesus factor

WHY AM I URINATING FREQUENTLY DURING PREGNANCY?

This occurs because in the first trimester, the uterus is a pelvic organ and begins to expand. It competes for space with the bladder which is located in the same space. It causes the woman to have the urge to urinate more frequently

In the second trimester the woman will be a little relieved since the uterus moves into the abdominal cavity or space.

Then again in the third trimester the uterus grows large and puts pressure on the bladder. This doesn’t allow it to expand fully. The urge to urinate becomes more .

But in all , keep in mind infection and certain conditions like gestational diabetes can cause frequent urination too. Also talk to your doctor or midwife about your concerns…

WHEN WILL I GET A FLAT TUMMY AFTER BIRTH?

It’s important to understand what happened to your body during pregnancy . The uterus enlarged to accommodate the growing baby. Your body retained more fluid and the abdominal muscles was also stretched during pregnancy. It took 9 months…This was a gradual process

In the same way after birth the body will need time to go back to its pre pregnancy state.

And yes the uterus will take about 6 weeks to go back to its original state

Also know it’s not just the uterus. The fluid in the body adds to your weight and looks after birth . The abdominal muscles will be lax and and the fat in your body will also be present. All this adds up to make your abdomen and body look big. Not forgetting the weight you gained during pregnancy

To reduce it. Here are simple things you can do .

Start postnatal Exercise after birth

Breastfeeding helps a lot

And also diet modification is very important . Nutritious meals in adequate proportions.

Some may need some physiotherapy as well

And yes let me add that be gentle and patient with yourself. Yes getting your body back after birth is possible but it takes time and effort

No matter what you are still beautiful! And a great mum. Never forget that!

Speak to your midwife or doctor for possible referral to resources near you! Nutritionist, fitness coach, physiotherapist, post partum birth coach etc

ANOMALY SCAN- AN IMPORTANT SCAN DURING PREGNANCY

During pregnancy, it’s important that you take an anomaly scan. This is usually done around 18 to 22 weeks of pregnancy

It’s purpose is to detect any abnormalities or deviation from normal

It checks the organs of the baby and if there is any abnormalities it can detect it

It helps the mum to know if there is any condition to be concerned about before the baby is born

In some instances some conditions detected may not be compactible with life. The mum is given the option to continue the pregnancy or not

But yes most baby’sdevelop as expected so don’t panic.

Ask your doctor or midwife about it

SKIN TO SKIN AFTER BIRTH

The first moment right after birth is amazing moment for both mum and baby. After the birth of the baby if both mum and baby are well, one of the best practice is to deliver baby onto the mums abdomen after baby is quickly cleaned.

Breast feeding is initiated immediately and this process has many benefits

1. It helps the mum and baby to bond

2. It helps with thermal regulation of the baby

3. Baby sucking helps with the contraction of the uterus to prevent bleeding

4. It help’s breastfeeding to be established

It’s an amazing moment and if there are no issues every mum should experience it. And yes this can be done for mums who are having cesarean section or vaginal births

Did you get to experience skin to skin with your baby right after birth?

Health is wealth,🙏🙏🙏
