When a woman is giving birth, and her belly becomes very hard, swollen, and raised like this on the picture , it is not normal. It can be a sign that something very bad is happening inside her womb. This condition is called uterine rupture. Uterine rupture means that the womb has torn open from too much pressure or stress during labour.
This problem mostly happens when:
The woman had a surgery on her womb before, like a previous cesarean operation (CS).
Labour is too long and too hard, but the baby is not coming out.
They delay going to the hospital after the labour pain starts.
They take strong traditional herbs or dangerous medicine to force labour.
If the womb tears, it is very dangerous.
The baby may not survive inside the womb.
The mother can bleed heavily and even may not survive too if doctors don’t act fast.
It can cause permanent damage to the woman’s body.
When you notice the belly is very hard, funny shaped, and you have serious pain during labour, you must rush to the hospital immediately! Delay can cause death for mother and child.
Advice to all women:
Always register for antenatal care in a hospital, not just traditional places.
If you had CS before, never delay labour at home.
Don’t take herbs or drugs to "force" labour.
When labour pain starts, move quickly to where trained doctors and midwives are available.
