Common signs

Repeated trips to the litter box with little or no urine (straining)

Crying/vocalizing, vomiting, lethargy, not eating

Why it’s dangerous
It’s not just a “full bladder.” A blocked cat can crash fast:

High potassium (K⁺) → dangerous heart rhythm issues

Rising kidney values (BUN/creatinine) ± acidosis → rapid decline

What vets focus on first

Quick triage: mentation, temperature, HR/RR, perfusion, pain

ECG + quick labs (especially K⁺ and BUN/creatinine) to guide sedation/catheterization and monitoring

Imaging (often X-rays) to look for stones and plan next steps

After the blockage is relieved: urinalysis (± culture), trend monitoring, and a prevention plan
