When women lead, communities grow. We were proud to have participated in the WW4W Forum – Women Working for the World 2025, organized by Fundación Juanfe under the leadership of its founder, Catalina Escobar—a leading platform in Latin America for advancing equity, sustainability, and purpose-driven leadership.

Our HR Director, Marcela Sañudo Vélez, joined a powerful panel on rural women’s leadership, together with Lorena Herran Ramirez, Project Coordinator at Compañía Nacional de Chocolates S.A.S and co-leader of Atenea; Martha Luz Acosta, Director of Culture and Service Processes at Grupo Bios; and Martha Ruby Falla Gonzalez, Sustainability Director at POSTOBON S.A. The panel was moderated by Natalia Figueroa, VP of Corporate Engagement and External Affairs at the Cámara de Comercio de Medellín.

At , women are present across every link of our banana value chain:

🟣 380 women work in the field
🟣 86% of the cooperative workforce at our snack plant is female
🟣 80% of those women are heads of household
🟣 42% of our Executive Committee is made up of women
🟣 We also promote leadership through programs like Mujeres Líderes by COMFAMA and have active protocols in place to prevent and address gender-based violence

Empowering women is key to nation-building!

At , we believe that gender equity is a strategic path toward inclusive development, and that true transformation begins by recognizing the power of women across the entire value chain. This is part of our long-term commitment to creating shared value, where economic growth goes hand in hand with dignity and community well-being.

We’re proud to share that Marcela Sañudo Vélez, our Director of Human Resources, will represent us at the Forum – Women Working for the World, led by Fundación Juanfe. She will take part in the panel on rural female leadership, where she will share how Uniban empowers women across its operations — from supporting 2,440 smallholder plantain growers, 30% of whom are women, to implementing inclusive employment practices in our value-added facilities.

As Colombia’s largest banana exporter and a key player in the transformation of Urabá, Uniban continues to demonstrate that when women lead, communities grow, and sustainable business becomes a reality for everyone.

At Uniban, we’re committed to the model and to building responsible value chains that drive community development and protect the planet.
At the 5th Fairtrade Banana Forum, organized by .comerciojusto , we had the opportunity to share our efforts alongside producers, workers, partners, and buyers from around the world. Our Sustainability Director, Carolina Jaramillo, presented our progress in biodiversity conservation, highlighting the creation of over 3,200 meters of biological corridors and the restoration of 117 hectares of forest in productive areas.
We also strengthened rural educational infrastructure in Magdalena and Urabá, supporting local communities with projects such as eco-friendly classrooms, school cafeterias, and public spaces that promote social inclusion and community well-being.
We believe that real progress is built collectively. Through our model, we generate impact that goes beyond the economic, bringing tangible benefits to the people behind the supply chain.

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate the 54 mothers and heads of household who lead the peeling cooperative at our Turbana Foods snack plant in Urabá. These women are essential to our business and our communities, demonstrating the impact of inclusive employment across our operations.

At Uniban, creating Shared Value means generating economic performance by improving the quality of life of the people who make our business possible. Today, 30% of our 2,440 small plantain growers are women, many of them mothers, who are strengthening local economies through leadership, resilience and opportunity.

In our own banana farms, women currently make up 12% of the workforce, a number we are determined to grow through inclusive hiring practices and equity-driven field policies. Their role exemplifies how empowering leads to more equitable, sustainable and future-ready supply chains.

May 1st | International Workers’ Day | At , we recognize the contributions of all those who make our purpose possible: we harvest the best of our land to share with the world. We create opportunities for the 2,440 smallholder plantain growers we work with, our farm operations personnel, administrative and logistics teams, and workforce within the banana sector.

A clear example of this commitment is our work to implement the in the banana sector. Over the past year, we closed the Living Wage gap across 148 farms in Urabá and reached 93% coverage in Magdalena, directly benefiting more than 1,300 workers through voluntary contributions.

In addition, together with the Asociación de Bananeros de Colombia, we signed a new collective agreement for the 2023–2027 period with Sintrainagro, the official union representing banana sector workers. This agreement includes a 14% wage increase in Urabá and establishes clear and stable labor conditions that strengthen our operations in Colombia, contribute to nation-building, and create shared value for our stakeholders.
