Can you tell where is Sebastián de Belalcázar pointing at? 📍

Looking down over the city, the Sebastian de Belalcázar Statue is one of Cali’s most iconic landmarks, erected in honor of the Spanish conquistador who founded the city in 1536.

This viewpoint was built in celebration of the city’s 400th birthday, the statue depicts Belalcázar leaning on his sword and pointing towards the ocean as he looks out over the city below.

That´s right… Hernando Tejada, the sculptor who donated this monument in 1996, decided to cast the large-scale Cat in Bogotá. Since it was way too big they had to dismantle it to transport it to Cali.

El Gato del Río has a father from Pereira, was born in Bogotá, but his heart is in Cali.
