NEW YEAR’S IN NEW ORLEANS 🕯️🕯️🕯️ PART II

1–3: a mold-free hotel 👍🏻

4–5: Spire Wellness a true sanctuary 🌱

6: Memorials for the children at Whitney Plantation 😔

7: Records of the children who died there. I can’t even put words to this. Some don’t have names… only labels like “little slave.” I cried through this entire exhibit and nearly was sick. What was done is beyond monstrous. I don’t know how to begin apologizing on behalf of my ancestors for what humans allowed.

9: Slave prices. I am so mad. NOLA is where enslaved people from West Africa entered after being transported in the bottom of ships. They were sold in the city, then forced to walk days without food, water, or rest to the sugar plantations. Children started working at 10 years old. Life expectancy: 10 years. This was barbaric. I don’t even know how to apologize.

11: This woman was incredible. She asked, “Why do we — Black locals — have to pay to come here?” A question that still sits heavy.

A special shout out to the for holding me beautifully when I discovered I was allergic to almost every hotel there due to mould!!
