James Van Der Beek was someone so many of us grew up watching, but beyond the screen, he was a husband, a father of six, and a man who chose to face colorectal cancer with honesty and courage.

By sharing his diagnosis publicly, James helped shine a light on a disease that is too often overlooked, especially among younger adults. His openness gave other families permission to talk about the hard things, to ask questions, and to seek screening.

Our hearts are with his wife, his children, and everyone who loved him. We stand with them and with every family navigating colorectal cancer right now.

La excelencia de las y los estudiantes de Medicina de la UCR los lleva nuevamente a liderar los índices de aprobación más altos del Examen de Conocimientos Médicos de Costa Rica (ECOM-CR). ¡Esto es ejemplar!

Según los datos proporcionados por el Colegio de Médicos y Cirujanos de Costa Rica, las y los estudiantes de la UCR sobresalieron este 2025 al alcanzar el 88.49 % de aprobación, mientras las otras universidades que imparten la carrera en el país obtuvieron porcentajes de aprobación del 14.29 % al 48.04 %.

Para el Dr. Willem Buján Boza, director de la Escuela de Medicina de la UCR, estos destacados resultados significan un gran orgullo y satisfacción, pues demuestran que la enseñanza y la malla curricular de la UCR está adecuadamente concebida para lo que necesita el país y la medicina a nivel latinoamericano y mundial.

“La excelencia es crítica. Nuestros egresados deben tener todas las herramientas porque, en un futuro, tendrán la salud de un prójimo en sus manos. Por eso, deben tener todos los conocimientos para que el quebranto de salud de la persona pueda ser solventado. Por eso, la excelencia no debe ser solo académica o teórica, sino también humanista y con un comportamiento social adecuado”, enfantizó el Dr. Buján.
