Jadav Payeng is also known as "The Forest Man of India." Payeng started planting trees in 1979 in a deserted island in India. His forest is now 1,300 acres and is home to many animals and birds. JAdav Payeng told NPR: "Earlier, this was all sand. No trees, no grass — nothing was here. Only driftwood. Now, seeds of grass carried downriver from China wash up, and pollinate, on their own."⁣
