Greetings to the community of AmaSER, Puerto Viejo, South Caribbean & abroad. My name is Katrina & I am an Ayurveda nutritionist, health counselor, and culinary teacher trained in the Shaka Vansiya lineage. I first came to Puerto Viejo in 2022 to apprentice on permaculture farms & participate in cultural exchange programs with the locals of Gandoca. During that time, I learned about the native medicinal plants, the local food, & even how to make my own chocolate. Needless to say, it was pretty magical. I fell in love with Costa Rica, the powerful wisdom of the jungle and its beauty. The jungle was transforming me to become more deeply ingrained in myself—to become more pure from the inside. These transformations were so deep and memorable that I felt I had to come back to this special place. When I returned in March 2024, I visited amaSER for the first time that turned into a year-long stay. Its breathtaking view was enough to quiet my mind and open my heart. I felt the aliveness of the amaSER grounds & all the love that’s been poured into this place—from the staff, to the yoga classes, the community, nature, food, & views. It became a safe haven for me to deepen my healing & to blossom my Ayurvedic practice rooted in the local food and medicinal herbs.
With all my heart and sweat, it is my intention to give back to amaSER the way it has given to me, the community of Puerto Viejo, and to travelers abroad. Though a new chapter is opening, the closing one is not lost. I want to continue the legacy amaSER has created for teaching affordable, high-quality yoga classes that reach across the vibrant diversity of Puerto Viejo. I want to show the community the magic of Ayurveda, creating easy to digest meals that calm the body. Together, Yoga and Ayurveda nurture a powerful unfolding of the divine healer in all of us, allowing us to dance to the beat of our own medicine, & to become firmly rooted in our authentic self. This firm root in ourselves is called Svastha, Ayurveda’s definition of perfect health.
