Equine Muscle Therapy

Equine Muscle Therapy I am a Kenesiologist who specializes in but am not limited to structural alignment, biomechanics and injury rehabilitaion. So what can be done?

I have worked with humans for over 15 years and for the last 3 years I have shifted my focuse to dogs and horses. I am a muscle therapist specializing in alternative rehabilitating body work. I have 12 years of experience working on people in the US and Costa Rica. I am also a life long horse enthusiast. I have recently turned my attention to the study of Equine massage and body work, applying my

techniques and concepts to the Equine body. Horses, like humans can suffer from muscle and joint pain from injury or overuse. They do not complain as much as humans and there for do not always get the same attention and care they need. If after a long ride you are feeling stiff and sore the next day, you can bet your Equine friend is feeling it also. Thats where Equine Muscle Therapy comes in. I come to your farm, asses the patient to determine the cause of discomfort and procede with the appropriate therapy. I also show you stretched and techniques you can do on your own to help maintain your horses health and flexibility. Signs:
If you notice anything out of the ordinary with your horse like having trouble with certain gaits, movements, suden or random aggression, limping, wheezing, excessive head shaking or pawing ect... These can be signs of muscle spasm or misalignment of the muscles or joints and can be easily corrected with the appropriate therapy.

90% of hind end imbalance and or weakness comes from the pole and cranium. If your horse struggles to engage its hind end, is weaker on one side vs the other or over all struggles to coordinate its hind legs do this to see if the source of the issue is likely in the front.

Stand straight in front of your horse and look at its eyes and nostrils. Are they even? Do they line up? If not your pole is out.
Ask your horse to lift its top line by gently scratching its belly. If it does not react, gets upset or struggles to lift cranial work is needed.

I will soon post a video that walks through these steps so you can examen your own horse help see where the problem is coming from so you can better help your horse.

Why is it important to address the emotional body when working on horses?

Horses, like humans, can store emotional trauma and stress in their bodies, which may manifest as physical tension, behavioral issues, or chronic health problems. Because they are highly sensitive, somatic beings, emotional experiences—such as fear, abandonment, or mistreatment—can become “stuck” in their nervous system, leading to blocked energy flow and disrupted movement patterns. This stored emotional stress often keeps them in a state of survival or hypervigilance, preventing them from fully relaxing, trusting, and expressing their natural strength and grace. By releasing these blockages through gentle, body-based approaches, horses can rebalance their systems and return to a state of clarity, responsiveness, and optimal performance.

Jaw release. 🥱
Jaw Tension = Perpetual Defense Mode: If the jaw is locked, tense, or misaligned, the nervous system may stay stuck in a sympathetic (fight/flight) state. This can chronically activate defense mechanisms—leading to issues like adrenal fatigue, anxiety, sleep problems, and muscular imbalances.

If your horse always seems tense, nervous, spooky, sluggish, tiered or stressed he may need a session.

It’s not work when you love what you do.
To work on horses you must be present and real, or they will call you out. That’s the beauty of working with these amazing creatures.
