ATL Skills in Action: Resolving Conflict Through Language
An inspiring open lesson titled Fix It, Don’t Fight It! was held in the Grade 7 English class, bringing together language learning and real-life situations in a dynamic and interactive way.
Through a range of engaging activities, students developed their communication skills, expanded their vocabulary, and practised the functional language needed to express emotions, resolve misunderstandings, and build healthy relationships. In the spirit of the IB approach, the lesson encouraged the development of ATL skills such as collaboration, communication, and social skills, while students demonstrated learner profile attributes including being Caring, Open-minded, and Communicators.
A particular emphasis was placed on connecting what was learned to everyday situations – from school disagreements to online communication – with a focus on responsible and empathetic action. As a closing activity, students created their own creative peace campaign messages, demonstrating not only their ability to identify a problem, but, more importantly, their readiness to offer solutions and inspire positive change in their community.
This lesson was a powerful reminder that language learning extends beyond the classroom, it becomes a tool for understanding, connection, and meaningful action.
ATL veštine na delu: rešavanje konflikata kroz jezik
Na času engleskog jezika za učenike Grade 7 održan je inspirativan ogledni čas pod nazivom „Fix It, Don’t Fight It!”, koji je na razigran i interaktivan način spojio učenje jezika sa stvarnim životnim situacijama.
Kroz dinamične aktivnosti, učenici su razvijali svoje komunikacione veštine, bogatili vokabular i vežbali funkcionalni jezik potreban za izražavanje emocija, rešavanje nesporazuma i izgradnju zdravih odnosa. U duhu IB pristupa, čas je podstakao razvoj ATL veština poput saradnje, komunikacije i socijalnih veština, dok su učenici pokazali osobine profila učenika kao što su caring, open-minded i communicators.
Poseban akcenat stavljen je na povezivanje naučenog sa svakodnevnim situacijama – od školskih nesuglasica do online komunikacije – uz fokus na odgovorno i empatično delovanje. Kao završni zadatak, učenici su osmislili kreativne „peace campaign” poruke, pokazujući spremnost da prepoznaju problem, ali još važnije – da ponude rešenja i pokrenu pozitivne promene u svojoj zajednici.
Ovaj čas još jednom je pokazao da učenje jezika prevazilazi učionicu – ono postaje alat za razumevanje, povezivanje i delovanje.
