Chronic stress is not merely an accompanying factor in disease, but a biologically active process that, through prolonged dysregulation of neuroendocrine and immune responses, can lead to persistent inflammation, alter the cellular environment, and contribute to the development and progression of malignancies.
Dr. Sanja Vignjević Petrinović spoke on the topic “Chronic and : Inflammation as the Connecting Link” within the Stress and Physical Health segment of the Forum of the Institute of Mental Health, held on 17 April at the Yugoslav Film Archive Museum.
The lecture highlighted the importance of inflammation as a key biological mechanism within the biopsychosocial model of stress, which understands stress through interconnected biological, psychological, and social dimensions and points to the need for a more integrated approach to understanding and addressing the relationship between stress and disease.
