Are you a White Lotus fan?
I personally am not 😬 so when I was researching about best places to visit in Sicily and when Taormina kept popping up on each list and one of the selling points was that this is where the second season of the show was filmed, I kept rolling my eyes over. πŸ™„
I imagined Taormina to be this very posh and polished, over-crowded and charmless place. I didn't even feel like visiting, but I am so happy that in the end I did! πŸ₯°
What I found was a beautiful old town perched on top of a hill with incredible views, beautiful architecture, great food, great hospitality even despite it still being a very touristy place. Everwhere you looked, there was so much beauty - their gorgeous balconies, incredible coastal views, ancient, medieval, and renaissance architecture, beautiful cafes and restaurants. Taormina simply stole my heart. ❀️
I decided that it was more than worthed to spend a couple of days in the town and soak up all the splendor, so I offered a two extra days add on to the week of the yoga retreat, where we just go full on dolce vita mode. And everybody loved it!
So this year, I am doing the same! The cherry on top is an unbelieveable villa I found for all of us to share, which is guaranteed to make you feel like a Taormina princess/prince.
We'll be in Taormina from the 15th till the 17th just before the yoga retreat starts.

Sicily is full of surprises at every corner. β€οΈπŸ’› How many of these were you familiar with?

1. πŸ› Over the span of three millenia these are the civilizations that have left their mark on Sicily: Ancient Sicilians, Phoenicians, Ancient Greeks, Romans, Vandals, Byzantines, Arabs, Normans, Swabians, Angevins (French), Aragonese (Spanish), Habsburgs & Burbons, and finally unified Italy. Some stayed for centuries, some very shortly, but they all left their mark on the island.

2. 🀌 Some linguists (and probably some not-necessarily-liguist Sicilians) consider that the language spoken on the island isn't merely a dialect of Italian but a distinc language in its own right. Can I have some thoughts on this from my Italian/Sicilian friends?

3. πŸŒ‹ I found some statistics that say there are close to 300 days a year with some activity from Etna, including mild, moderate, and severe activity. But you don't need the statistics to understand how often Etna is smoking and glowing - you just need to see a video of completely uninterrupted daily life in Catania as smoke is rising from the craters. No body cares, locals are just going around their business as usual, not even taking a photo. 😁

4. 🌾 Probably the most known story from Greek mythology that's happening on Sicilian soil is the abduction of Persephone (daughter of Demeter, goddess of fertility) by Hades (god of the underworld). According to the myth, he saw beautiful Persephone on a meadow close to Lake Pergusa (although some other localities in Sicily are mentioned in different sources). Demeter was suffering terribly because of the loss of her daughter and as a consequence all the nature was dying. Long story short, other gods interveened and Hades alowed Persephone to spend one part of the year with her mother, but still had to stay in the otherworld during the other half of the year and this is how the myth explains the change of seasons. There are other iteresting mythological stories connected to Sicily - for me the most fascinating one involves cyclops. Drop me a comment if you want me to share it. πŸ˜‰

Jumping onto the Show Yourself in 2016 train!

2016 was a big year for me. It was the year My Yogic Adventure was born. I hosted and organized my first solo retreats in Serbia and Nepal. The two retreats in Serbia got sold out super fast and I had three guests in each week in Nepal. 😬

I started teaching private classes in Belgrade in my living room and started having more requests than I could handle. It was the first time I had at least a vague sense of what I wanted to do with my life, although I can't say I fully trusted it was possible. (Turns out it totally was). I was full on in my Indian era.

In 2016 I turned 30, which felt like such a huge number. Somehow, this year I am again turning 30, not sure what kind od glitch in the matrix happened there... πŸ˜‰

For many years, I used to joke that I do yoga retreats only in places that don't have an asphalt road leading to it, even if it would be just for the last 100 meters. And actually for the first few years this was the truth, as all of my locations were very remote. Lately, this has changed a bit, but I still like to choose somewhat remote locations.
Ideally, my retreats are somewhere you feel as if it would take you ages to reach the closest town, but in reality it's just a short ride away.
And this is exactly the case for the Rising and Falling retreat in Sicily. The house is completely surrounded with citrus orchards and in whichever direction you look, you only see endless green, but at the same time we are less than half an hour away from one of the most beautiful cities on the island - Siracuse.
For me the best part about the house is the big garden with gorgeous lemon trees πŸ‹ I just have a weak spot for lemon trees. πŸ₯° We also have a swimming pool, but apparently I am more of a lemon person than a pool person. 😊 Oh, and the last 200 meters leading to the house are a dirt road. 😊 So it really does check all of my boxes. πŸ₯°
What is your ideal setting for a yoga retreat?
If it includes lemon trees and swimming pools, you should check out the link in my Bio πŸ˜‰

Organizing and hosting a yoga retreat is actually a lot like cooking. πŸ‘©πŸ½β€πŸ³ Or at least I approach both in the same way - I want the best quaity seasonal ingredients for my cooking and the most stunning locations for my retreats. I have a general idea of what kind of a meal I want to prepare, but I also let the inspiration take me elsewhere. In a retreat, there is a plan, but many times either due to inspiration or due to external circumstances, or sometimes I just feel that the group needs something else, adjustments and turns need to be made.
The most important, and maybe also the most difficult, part is trusting the process. Sometimes on the first day, the group seems so disjoint, non compatible, some people expected something different, etc. Now after 10 years, I know that I just need to do my part in the background, create positive conditions and everything else would fit into place - no need to micromanage and lose my head. I need to stay grounded and calm, and just keep stiring - in the end, everything will come to the right consistency. 😊
Last year, we cooked a really delicious retreat in Sicily - with the best ingredients and the best recipe for Dolce Vita - doing yoga outside, eating the best fresh Italian food, and discovering the incredibly rich history of the island. And my cherries on top - that's always you guys! πŸ’πŸ’πŸ’πŸ’
This year, we'll be back to this same stunning place in May and I already can't wait! πŸ₯°

Visiting Alhambra has always been on my traveling bucket list and despite all the hype and anticipation build up, when I finally got to see it, it definitely didn't dissapoint. When I entered the Nasrid palace for the first time, I cried looking at the cielings - the quality and the ex*****on of details made it look like it's oozing and vibrating and levitating all at the same time. It was a moment when you look at something and wonder how a human being could have imagined this kind of beauty without ever seeing it before.
I nerded out a bit on Alhambra in this post, giving you some basic historical info. But, of course, whatever I say, whichever photo I choose, nothing can come even close to seeing this embodyment of beuty and harmony with your own eyes.
As an optional additional part od Exploring Inner Landscapes retreat in Andalusia, we spend two days in Granada and take half a day to admire this architectural wonder.

I only have two things to add.
Yes, I know Cadiz is far and out of the way but it is absolutely worth the visit, it's spectacular. Definitely my favorite city in Andalucia.
And yes, I do still have a crush on this flamenco dancer. We don't need to discuss it, but we also can. πŸ₯°
Which one do you like best? (The city, not the dancer 😬)

One of the most common questions I get is which of the retreats is my favorite. Of course, I love them all, otherwise I wouldn't be doing them. But the most special for sure is the yoga trek in Nepal. It is the experience like no other - because of the Himalayas, the diversity of the changing landscape, the format where we walk every day to reach another village where we rest and sleep, because of the people we meet along the way. And although there isn't as much yoga as in the other retreats (we only have one class a day, and sometimes not even that, depending on the altitude and the weather conditions), it is the most yogic one, because there is no other option but to be present with every step and with every breath in these mountains. There is no option but to be grateful for every little comfort that we get along the way. There is no other option but to be humbled by the mountain day after day. πŸ™
Next year we are combining two treks - P**n Hill and Mardi Himal into one 10-day trek with two sunrise walks, beatiful villages, incredible views, and a big sense of accomplishment when we reach 4200m.
This trek will be MYA grand finale for 2026. The dates are November 3 - 13. All the info is in Bio or message me for more details. πŸ™
Don't miss it.

Next year, we are trying out something a little bit different from my regular week-long yoga retreat. We are heading to China for two weeks of yoga, but also lots of exploration. Two provinces, three cities, one Buddhist holy mountain, who knows how many temples, ancient villages, and UNESCO sites. Oh, and pandas. Hopefully many 🀞🀞🀞🐼🐼🐼
All the spots for this retreat have already been booked, but if you'd like to join, don't be dissapointed, I'll be repeating this program for sure.
