I once heard a poem about a man who was looking at a tombstone that listed the date of a person’s birth, then a dash, and then the date of his death. The poem asked how well the dead person had lived “his dash.”

We all have a beginning and an end. The challenge is to enjoy the middle. When we live our life conscious of our needs, we have a greater opportunity to enjoy our dash.
