🐬Do you remember what dolphin groups are called? Here are some facts to help you:

🌐Dolphins don’t just live in simple groups, they are part of complex, ever-changing social networks shaped by learning, cooperation, and family connections.

👥They rely on teamwork to hunt, protect each other, and care for their young. Many female dolphins—like sisters—stay closely connected.

💪These strong bonds, combined with their flexible social groups, make dolphin societies both adaptive and deeply connected.

🐬Who's who? Can you tell our dolphins apart just by their dorsal fin: Chabelita and Nubia?

✨A dolphin's dorsal fin is more than just a silhouette, it's a signature!

❕Their dorsal fin, located at the center of its back, is often curved (falcate), and no two are exactly alike. Each fin has a unique shape, acting like a fingerprint that helps identify the individual and this information is used for identification research in the wild.🔎

🔎Look closely!

See how the water flows over Nubia's skin?

The dolphin's skin isn't just perfectly smooth, there are subtle ridges that wrap around the body, helping sense the water and reduce drag as she swims. The surface renews every two hours, is hairless, and is 15-20x thicker than human skin!

Incredible how the dolphin is optimized for motion through water! 💙🐬

Listen up! 🔊

Last week the CDTC team provided Chabelita and Nubia with auditory enrichment, a way to stimulate dolphins by introducing different sounds into their environment. Sounds can spark curiosity and encourage dolphins to investigate and interact with their surroundings.

For this session, we introduced sounds such as the xylophone, triangle, clapping hands, ukulele, and tambourine. Each sound creates a unique auditory experience, allowing the dolphins to hear and respond to a variety of tones and rhythms. 🎶

Providing enrichment like this helps create a more engaging and stimulating environment that supports the dolphins’ natural curiosity and overall well-being. 🌊🐬

: Ready to dive into a dolphinitely amazing fact? 🐬

Bottlenose dolphins have to consciously control every breath they take. When they surface, their exhale and inhale happen in about 0.3 - 1 second, and they can exchange nearly 90% of the air in their lungs each time. That familiar “blow” you see isn’t just air, it’s a mix of warm v***r and seawater from the blowhole.
