Leven en dood, ze horen bij elkaar.
Ze horen bij het leven, we krijgen vroeg of laat allemaal mee te maken.

Helemaal in ons werk als verpleegkundigen in de wijk. Bij de mensen thuis.
Het blijft speciaal om een stervensproces thuis te mogen begeleiden.
De mensen kiezen vaak voor hun eigen vertrouwde omgeving om hun laatste tijd door te brengen. Omringt door de mensen die ze liefhebben.
Als de keuze/ mogelijkheid er is om thuis de laatste tijd door te brengen is dat echt een geschenk.
Hoewel er geen "recept" is hoe het moet of zal gaan kun je thuis wel makkelijker ontspannen. Er zijn geen bezoekuren of andere regels, alleen die van je eigen familie.

Voorwaarde is wel natuurlijk dat er goede ondersteuning is in dit proces waarbij de huisarts en de wijkverpleging naadloos op elkaar aansluiten.
We nemen de patient en zijn/haar familie mee in het proces waarbij vooral informatie en voorbereiden op wat komen gaat centraal staat. Daarnaast zorgen we natuurlijk ook goed voor het lichamelijk welzijn van de patient.
Het is altijd weer bijzonder. Verschillende generaties die allemaal op hun eigen manier naar gebeurtenissen kijken en soms verassend reageren.

Maar als je de tijd krijgt om rustig afscheid te nemen komen er ook veel herinneringen boven. Vaak wordt er naast een sterfbed ook veel gelachen. Dat klinkt raar maar het is waar. De beste herinneringen worden daar gedeeld, de grapjes van de familie komen boven en samen wordt er gelachen en gehuild. Gelachen om de goede herinneringen en gehuild om het naderende verlies.
Het geeft ruimte om samen het onvermijdelijke te accepteren.

En in dit unieke proces zorgen wij dat de gene die ons gaat verlaten goed verzorgd is, geen pijn of paniek hoeft te voelen. We begeleiden de familie, steunen hen in deze bijzondere tijd. Als de patient is heengegaan verzorgen we deze zodat deze met respect en waardig de woning kan verlaten.
Ieder afscheid is anders en uniek. Familie samenstelling, geloof of culturele achtergrond bepalen welke weg we lopen met elkaar.
Altijd met respect voor elkaar, liefde voor ons vak en ondersteund door betrokken en kundige huisarts.
Een afscheid kan zo ook een dierbare herinnering worden voor de familie en naasten
