ADC offers several products and services.
This well thought-out total package includes – besides a Thrombosis Service, Blood Drawing Centers and Mobile Blood Drawing Services – among other things also five specialized departments as outlined in short further on. ADC has the first water laboratory on Curaçao since March 2009 that carries the international accreditation ISO/IEC 17025. This water lab checks on Curaçao’s drinking-, dialyses- and well water. The department of Toxicology examines the physic-chemical aspects of the water and the department of Medical Microbiology and Virology looks into the microbiological side. Toxicology also does research for the Judiciary, hospitals and the Health department – with investigations varying from routine tasks to the most complex analyses. The department of Molecular Diagnostics does research at DNA-level. To detect HPV for instance, in order to assess the risk for cervical cancer. This approach is faster than other methods, allowing the physician to take action sooner if needed. The department of Clinical Chemistry and Hematology does specific research for general practitioners, medical specialists and medical institutions. This facilitates diagnosing and the setting up of treatment plans. Research by this department produces pointers too for an optimal thrombosis policy in the national healthcare. ADC’s Clinical Chemistry and Hematology department is the only one in the Caribbean region that is equipped and trained to detect chronic illnesses like rheumatism and other diseases in a very early stage. The department of Pathology examines tissue or cells of humans and animals when requested by the Judiciary, physicians or veterinarians. This specialization, which is not available at other laboratories on Curaçao, finds out whether a tumor is benign or malign for instance or determines the cause of a decease. Just once
Local patients and tourists – including those visiting by cruise ship – are very welcome for blood drawing for all needed tests; also on Saturday. The waiting time is kept to a minimum and you hardly notice the insertion of the needle! Visiting ADC always means that you will have your blood drawn just once because ADC is the only medical lab on the island with seven disciplines under one roof – so you will not be referred to another lab for more blood drawing.
