Why We Don’t Ride Our Horses

At our care farm, you’ll notice something a little different — our horses and donkeys aren’t here to be ridden.
Most of them are rescues, with stories and scars that we may never fully understand. Some can be ridden, but they’re not beginner horses, and their healing comes first.

We believe in connection before expectation.

We teach our visitors, especially the kids, that horses are not here for us. They are not objects.
They are souls with histories, feelings, and their own voices. They’ve been through enough.
Now, it’s time to show them what unconditional love looks like.

Instead of riding, we:
🐴 Walk beside them
🧼 Groom and brush them
🤲 Massage and care for them
🎲 Play games and build trust
🌞 Simply be with them in peace

Sometimes, a child may lay on a horse’s back, cuddle up, or take a quiet ride around the paddock .
But only if the horse chooses to say yes.
And if that “yes” never comes? That’s perfectly okay.

On Saturday mornings, we host our Pony Club.
A peaceful & playful time where we sometimes ride the horses who are physically and mentally able and who enjoy it. But even then, connection and the well-being of the horse always come first. Riding is never the goal relationship is.

We are not a riding school. We are a sanctuary.
A safe place where animals and people can just be.
Where we learn patience, empathy and what it truly means to respect another being.

We are not their past.
We are their future.
And we will protect it.

🌿 Mental Health Monday 🌿

FarmClub is more than just an after-school club.
It’s a space where children care for rescue animals,
learn about nature, and grow through real, meaningful experiences. But what really makes FarmClub special is what happens beneath the surface.

We work with a beautiful mix of children, some are highly sensitive, introverted or on the autism spectrum. Others have ADHD, ODD or behavioral challenges.
Each child brings something unique and we love them just as they are.
But being together in one group?
That’s not always easy.

To an outsider, it might look like we just throw all the kids together and hope for the best.
But what you don’t see is the behind-the-scenes work.
the daily check-ins, the team meetings, the calls with parents & the careful planning.

We look at each child individually:
✨ What does this child need?
✨ Who can they connect with right now, and who not yet?
✨ How do we move towards inclusion?
Slowly, respectfully, and with intention?

Some afternoons take everything we’ve got.
But this is what Kurá pa Kurá stands for:
🌱 A place for every child.
🌱 A place where every story matters with or without a backpack full of challenges.
🌱 A place that reflects the real world, where we learn to navigate differences with compassion.

Sometimes, a child doesn’t fully land in the group or on the farm. And that’s okay too. That’s not failure.
That’s being honest about what works for them even if it means finding another path.

The child always comes first. Always. ❤️

✨ Yin Yoga & Sound Healing among the horses ✨

Together with .curacao we offer a healing experience in the heart of nature, under the trees, surrounded by our special horses 🐎💫

Many of our horses are rescues with a past shaped by trauma. Now they live here in peace and love, helping the children of Kurá pa Kura grow in self-awareness and compassion.

During this unique session:
🧘‍♀️ Gentle yin yoga & sound healing in a trauma-informed space (no physical touch, no triggering language).
🌿 A calm and healing experience, especially supportive for anyone facing mental health challenges.
🐴 Your peaceful presence also soothes our horses.
it’s a healing exchange.

✨ With or without mental health struggles, you are welcome.
Come home to yourself… and leave something beautiful behind for the horses too 💛

📍 Set in the trees, surrounded by nature and horses
🕯️ Softly lit, magical and safe

You can’t reason with a brain that doesn’t feel safe.

When a child is overwhelmed,
they don’t need lectures or logic.
They need calm. They need connection.
They need to feel safe in their body
before they can hear your words.

On our care farm, kids find that calm through
animals, nature, and movement.

Brushing a pony. Feeding goats. Running barefoot.

These moments aren’t just sweet, they’re regulating.
Rregulated kids are reachable kids.

💚
Next time your child is melting down, try this:
Don’t ask questions. Don’t rush to fix.
Just regulate first.
The rest will follow.

Not all therapy looks like talking.
Sometimes it looks like holding a chicken, brushing a pony or lying under a tree and listening to the wind.

On our care farm we believe healing happens when kids feel safe in their bodies, not trapped in their thoughts.

Animals don’t rush you. Nature doesn’t ask questions.
They just let you be and that’s where the magic begins.

ANXIETY IN KIDS DOESN’T ALWAYS LOOK LIKE WORRY OR FEAR…

Sometimes it looks like tummy aches, meltdowns after school, or refusing to go to a birthday party.

At our care farm,
we see the signs kids can’t always explain.
We don’t ask them to talk right away.
We let them brush a pony, feed a chicken or run barefoot in the grass. We let their bodies feel safe again.

Because healing often begins before words.

WE HAVEN’T BEEN SITTING STILL SINCE THE FUNDRAISER!

Barney and Diego have already been neutered, and soon Barney will be able to join Maya in the herd. That means he’ll finally get to live with more companions. We also want Diego to join the group so they’ll both have a donkey buddy. This can only happen 12 weeks after neutering, when all the testosterone has left their bodies (they’re no longer fertile after 6 weeks).

The rabbits were spayed and neutered this Tuesday! Papaya is a male, Mango and Coco are females. They got to rest at the teacher’s home and will return to the farm this weekend.

DID YOU KNOW that female rabbits who aren’t spayed have a much higher risk of uterine cancer? So aside from not wanting baby bunnies, we also want to keep our animals healthy.

Thanks to steven our veterinarian, thanks to for helping🙏

THANK YOU all again for helping and supporting our animals♥️

In the short time Bella graced us with her presence, she brought an immeasurable amount of joy and love into our lives. She was more than just a horse; she was family. Despite only having two weeks together, she touched our hearts deeply. Her gentle spirit and kind nature were a blessing to us all, especially the kids, who showered her with endless cuddles and kisses.

When we learned about her kidney failure, it broke our hearts. Saying goodbye was one of the hardest things we’ve ever had to do. But Bella’s legacy lives on; she rests peacefully on the land of , surrounded by painted stones and coconuts, with a mango tree growing in her memory.

Bella may have left us too soon, but her spirit and the love she shared will forever remain in our hearts.
We are eternally grateful for the time we had with her. 🌈

Who Am I

Welcome to my corner on the internet! I am Sanne, 32 years old and a passionate individual who has dedicated my career to making a positive impact on the lives of others. My journey began with a deep-rooted love for horses. Leading me to specialize in equine sport therapy. Through this I honed my skills in saddle fitting, biomechanics, palpation, Bowen technique, stretching and first aid to ensure the well-being of horses under my care.

As my experience expanded, I delved into the world of classical dressage. Focusing on the rehabilitation of traumatized horses. This journey was fueled by a desire to help these animals heal both physically and emotionally, allowing them to regain their trust and confidence. In parallel to my equine pursuits I also ventured into the world of yoga and mindfulness. Completing trainings in yin and vinyasa at De Nieuwe Yogaschool. I found a holistic approach to well-being that complemented my work with horses. Additionally, becoming a certified mindfulness trainer enriched my ability to connect with both horses and humans on a deeper level.

I worked for a long time on a care farm. Where I had the privilege of working closely with horses and teaching children, with and without special needs. This thought me the power of empathy, patience and the profound connection between humans and animals. Following my time at the care farm, I transitioned to a closed ward at a psychiatric hospital. I served as a social worker specializing in complex psychiatry. In this challenging yet rewarding role, I worked tirelessly to provide support, guidance and advocacy for individuals facing mental health struggles. It was here that I honed my skills in crisis intervention, therapeutic communication and fostering a safe and nurturing environment for those in need.

Throughout my career I have been driven by a deep-seated commitment to promoting inclusivity, understanding and compassion in all aspects of my work. I am excited to share my experiences, insights and unwavering dedication to making a difference with you. Thank you for joining me on this journey towards positive change and empowerment for all!
