Why We Don’t Ride Our Horses
At our care farm, you’ll notice something a little different — our horses and donkeys aren’t here to be ridden.
Most of them are rescues, with stories and scars that we may never fully understand. Some can be ridden, but they’re not beginner horses, and their healing comes first.
We believe in connection before expectation.
We teach our visitors, especially the kids, that horses are not here for us. They are not objects.
They are souls with histories, feelings, and their own voices. They’ve been through enough.
Now, it’s time to show them what unconditional love looks like.
Instead of riding, we:
🐴 Walk beside them
🧼 Groom and brush them
🤲 Massage and care for them
🎲 Play games and build trust
🌞 Simply be with them in peace
Sometimes, a child may lay on a horse’s back, cuddle up, or take a quiet ride around the paddock .
But only if the horse chooses to say yes.
And if that “yes” never comes? That’s perfectly okay.
On Saturday mornings, we host our Pony Club.
A peaceful & playful time where we sometimes ride the horses who are physically and mentally able and who enjoy it. But even then, connection and the well-being of the horse always come first. Riding is never the goal relationship is.
We are not a riding school. We are a sanctuary.
A safe place where animals and people can just be.
Where we learn patience, empathy and what it truly means to respect another being.
We are not their past.
We are their future.
And we will protect it.
