In a drowning emergency, prioritize personal safety. It is advisable to use gloves, a CPR mask, or ventilation shields, and check the victim's responsiveness. Open their airway and check for breathing. If they are not breathing, start with 5 rescue breaths. If alone, perform CPR for 1 minute before calling 112. Continue with 30 chest compressions followed by 2 rescue breaths. Use an AED if available. Your quick and informed actions can save a life.

What should I do if I suspect a cardiac arrest❓

First, immediately call 112. Start CPR right away to keep the blood flowing and use an AED as soon as possible to restore the heart's rhythm. Ensure timely professional medical support for advanced care and recovery. Remember, quick action saves lives.

When someone is choking, be sure to carefully observe the specifics of the situation to determine the best course of action.

🔹 If the Victim is Obese or Pregnant:
Give chest thrusts instead of abdominal thrusts – by placing the hands above the breastbone rather than below as you would during an abdominal thrust.

🔹 If the Victim is Mildly Choking:
Encourage them to cough. Only start giving back blows if coughing doesn’t work and the victim stops breathing.

🔹 If the Victim is Severely Choking:
The 5 & 5 Method

⚠️ Caution:
Abdominal thrusts should not be given to infants, pregnant women or obese people.

⚠️ People lose their ability to speak when choking. Not only is a foreign object lodged in a person’s throat, cutting their air supply and oxygen flow, but they also risk permanent brain damage if oxygen does not reach the brain for as few as 4 minutes.

Therefore, it is essential that you recognise the universal sign of choking and assist if possible.

Many wonder if CPR can be performed on a bed at home. For effective chest compressions, you should perform CPR at a depth of 5-6 cm. This is hard to achieve on a standard mattress. Because of this, chest compressions performed on a bed are less likely to be effective.

If a hard, firm surface is available, it is best you perform CPR on it.

Similarly, if the unresponsive person is on a car seat, chair, or any other surface that prevents you from effectively performing chest compressions, you must move the victim to a firm, flat surface.

🆘 AEDs deliver a life-saving shock to the hearts of people suffering from cardiac arrest. Don’t fear AEDs – using them combined with CPR could make all the difference in saving someone’s life.

✔ The success rate is as high as 70%.

Agonal breathing is an abnormal breathing pattern found in people who are not getting enough oxygen and are gasping for air. If you identify agonal breathing in a person, you must immediately start CPR.
Don’t delay. Increase a person’s chance of survival with instant CPR.
