🐱 Kidney disease in cats – What you need to know

Kidney disease is one of the most common health problems in cats, especially as they get older. Early diagnosis and proper monitoring are essential to improving both quality and length of life.

When a cat shows elevated blood biochemistry (urea, creatinine, SDMA):
• An ultrasound of the kidneys and ureters is crucial to assess kidney structure and to check for stones.
• Urine testing is performed to evaluate protein, bacteria, or crystals that may have formed.
• The veterinarian also considers the clinical signs, such as vomiting, loss of appetite, increased thirst, or increased urination.

General information for cat owners:
• Cats often show no obvious symptoms until the disease is advanced.
• Regular blood and urine checks (especially in cats over 7 years old) are the key.
• Early intervention can significantly slow the progression of kidney disease.
