What Is a Uterine Septum?

🧬 A uterine septum (septate uterus) is a congenital structural variation of the uterus. It is characterized by a thin tissue that partially or completely divides the uterine cavity.

Most women are not aware of this condition. It usually does not cause noticeable symptoms in daily life and is often discovered during infertility evaluations.

🤰 Some women with a uterine septum can conceive naturally.
However, the septum tissue may:

• Reduce blood supply to the area where the embryo implants
• Increase the risk of miscarriage
• Lead to recurrent pregnancy loss
• Make it more difficult for a pregnancy to progress normally

🔬 In IVF treatment, the health of the uterine cavity is extremely important.
For successful implantation, the uterus must provide a suitable environment for the embryo. Therefore, the structure of the uterus is carefully evaluated before starting treatment.

If a uterine septum is detected, it can usually be removed with a minimally invasive procedure called hysteroscopy. This helps create a healthier uterine environment for embryo implantation.

✨ Accurate diagnosis, appropriate treatment, and evaluation by an experienced specialist can significantly improve the chances of pregnancy.

For many couples, when this process is properly planned, becoming parents through IVF treatment may be possible.

📩 If you have questions about uterine imaging (HSG), recurrent miscarriages, or the IVF process, feel free to send us a DM or contact our clinic.

Hydration is especially important for women undergoing IVF during Ramadan. 🌙

Between Iftar and Suhoor, try to drink 2–3 liters of water to help support hormone balance and keep your body functioning optimally during treatment.

Proper hydration may also help reduce complications such as Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome, which can worsen with dehydration during ovarian stimulation.

💡 Helpful tips:
* Start drinking water gradually after Iftar
* Keep a water bottle nearby throughout the evening
* Reduce caffeine and salty foods that increase dehydration

Always consult your fertility specialist about fasting during IVF to ensure the safest approach for your treatment.

Can breastfeeding mothers fast during Ramadan?

Fasting during the breastfeeding period may be possible for some mothers; however, it depends on several factors such as the mother’s health, milk supply, and the baby’s age.

📌 From a medical perspective:
Research shows that in healthy and well-nourished mothers, short periods of fasting usually do not completely stop milk production. However, prolonged dehydration and insufficient calorie intake may lead to a decrease in milk supply or cause fatigue in the mother.

📌 Situations that require attention:
If your baby is under 6 months old and is exclusively breastfed
If there is a noticeable decrease in milk supply
If the baby has insufficient weight gain
If the mother experiences dizziness, severe fatigue, or dehydration

In such cases, fasting may not be recommended.

💡 If you are considering fasting:
Make sure to consume enough calories and fluids at iftar and suhoor
Monitor your baby’s feeding pattern and weight gain during the day
Consult your doctor if necessary

Every mother and every baby have different needs. Therefore, the best decision should always be made by prioritizing the health of both the mother and the baby.

Foods to Avoid at Iftar

During Ramadan, iftar tables become richer and more abundant…
However, for couples undergoing IVF treatment, planning pregnancy, or struggling with infertility, certain foods may negatively affect hormonal balance and reproductive health.
Here’s what to be mindful of at iftar from a fertility perspective 👇

🍰 1️⃣ Excess Sugar and Syrup-Based Desserts
Syrup-based desserts can rapidly raise blood sugar levels.
This may:
Increase insulin resistance
Disrupt hormonal balance in women with PCOS
Affect ovulation patterns
In men, high sugar intake may negatively impact s***m quality.
👉 Limit dessert to 1–2 times per week, keep portions small, and choose milk-based desserts when possible.

🍟 2️⃣ Fried and High-Fat Foods
Heavy, greasy meals can:
Increase oxidative stress
Strain hormone metabolism
Lead to weight gain
Obesity can reduce both IVF success rates and natural conception chances.
👉 Opt for grilled, boiled, or baked cooking methods instead.

🥤 3️⃣ Sugary and Carbonated Drinks
Soft drinks and processed fruit juices:
Provide empty calories
Cause blood sugar fluctuations
May contribute to dehydration
During treatment, adequate hydration is essential for embryo development and a healthy uterine environment.
👉 Aim for at least 2–2.5 liters of water between iftar and suhoor.

🥖 4️⃣ White Bread and Refined Carbohydrates
Refined flour products are digested quickly and can cause sudden spikes in blood sugar.
This may negatively affect fertility, especially in women with insulin resistance.
👉 Choose whole-grain alternatives whenever possible.

☕ 5️⃣ Excessive Caffeine
High consumption of tea and coffee after iftar can:
Disrupt sleep patterns
Increase cortisol (the stress hormone) levels
Affect hormonal balance
It is recommended not to exceed 1 cup of coffee per day.

💛 Remember
IVF success begins not only in the laboratory, but also at the table.
Ramadan is a time for both spiritual and physical renewal. Ramadan Kareem 🌿✨
