I used to say “I will never go vegan”

Yet here I am, 10 years vegan

Full day of eating as a vegan personal trainer.

Accidentally went overboard with my protein intake at 160g 😂

That’s how easy it is to get enough protein on a vegan diet.

Improvements: I could’ve added some more veggies like carrots and tomatoes to bring the vitamins up.

Avoiding soybeans and drinking beer & dairy milk to be “masculine” is like avoiding barbell squats and doing bodyweight glute kickbacks to build big glutes.

You’re not building any glutes with those kickbacks.

Soybeans do not affect male reproductive hormones, as we’ve seen in this meta analysis of 41 studies looking at thousands of men (PMID: 33383165).

You got people like Paul Saladino and other carnivore diet fans saying, oh but look at this rodent study (PMID: 11524239), the rats fed soy saw a significant drop in testosterone!

Last time I checked, we ain’t rats.

I can also say that we shouldn’t eat any saturated fat or dietary cholesterol because in this study rats saw a drop in cognition/brain function (PMID: 27343935)

See how easy it is?

Soybeans contain isoflavones, a type of phytoestrogens that has various health benefits. From acting as antioxidants to reducing prostate and breast cancer risk (PMID: 36829927).

Phytoestrogens should not be confused with estrogen.

They share the same chemical structure but are extremely weaker compared to estrogen, and as such do not cause any hormone imbalances.

If you consume soy daily, it’s important that you also ensure you get enough iodine, as the combo of soy consumption + iodine deficiency can lead to thyroid problems.

Lastly, usually those who think soy is “feminizing”, think beer is “manly”.

This could not be further from the truth.

You see beer contains a type of phytoestrogen called 8-prenylnaringenin while soy contains a type of phytoestrogen called genistein.

The 8-prenylnaringenin found in beer is much more potent, and excess consumption of it can cause issues with reproductive hormones.

Same goes for dairy milk, especially whole dairy milk or dairy milk from pregnant cows which contain steroid hormones that have been seen to increase the risk of breast and prostate cancer (PMID: 26258087).

In conclusion: Soy does not affect testosterone. It is protective against cancers and only provides health benefits. Dairy and beer on the other hand contain much more potent estrogen-like hormones that can increase risk of certain cancers.
