How many eggs do you need for IVF to work successfully?

It’s one of the most common & important questions I get from patients starting their journey.

While numbers matter, success in depends on many factors working together, and the right support can make a BIG difference.

The chances of a successful cycle increase when care is personalized and carefully planned:
✅ A protocol tailored to your reserve and hormone profile
✅ A fertility specialist with experience in stimulation and egg retrieval
✅ Advanced lab conditions for fertilization and development
✅ Early and honest conversations with a specialist about timing, expectations, & if needed egg donation

Here’s a general estimate, based on age and expected embryo quality:
Under 35 ➡️ ~10 eggs
35–37 ➡️ ~15 eggs
38–40 ➡️ ~18–20 eggs
40–42 ➡️ ~30–40 eggs

Not every egg retrieved results in a healthy embryo and that’s expected.
At each stage - egg retrieval → fertilization → blastocyst development → genetic screening -the number of viable embryos naturally decreases. This is a normal part of human reproduction and something we plan for in every cycle.

Sometimes, just only ONE good quality egg is all it takes to achieve a successful . Understanding your options early can make the process feel less overwhelming and more informed. Schedule a consultation!

For many women, the early years of adulthood are spent avoiding pregnancy, to focus on education, careers, and other priorities. But as patients reach their 30s, the conversation often shifts: from preventing to wondering whether it’s still possible.

From a medical standpoint, we know that female begins to decline gradually in the early 30s, and more significantly after 35. Still, life doesn’t always follow a set timeline. Building a career, getting financially ready, or meeting the right partner can all take time, and that can sometimes mean postponing family planning until it feels right.

The reality is:
✔️ There is no universal timeline for starting a family.
✔️ There is no one-size-fits-all approach to fertility.
✔️ And THERE ARE OPTIONS available to help protect your potential (whether that’s egg or freezing, timed , or assisted reproductive technologies like and .)

What matters most is having the right information early enough to make informed decisions.

If you’re feeling uncertain or overwhelmed by the When or How of starting a family, that’s normal. Schedule a consultation with fertility specialist Dr Anastasiadis to understand your options, so that whenever you decide to take that step, you do so with the necessary knowledge & support.

Infertility is a medical condition, just like diabetes or hypertension. It affects 1 in 6 couples worldwide, and yet, it’s often misunderstood and even dismissed.
You’ve probably heard it all before:
💬 “Just relax!”
💬 “Take a holiday!”
💬 “Stop stressing so much!”
These messages ignore an important fact: is not solved by positive thinking alone. It’s a real, diagnosable condition that deserves serious medical attention and your struggles are valid.

Thanks to modern medicine, many couples are building the families they’ve dreamed of. Treatments like:
🔹 (In Vitro Fertilization)
🔹 (Intrauterine Insemination)
🔹 Induction
🔹Male fertility therapies
Are all helping, depending on each case, to turn hope into reality.

When Should You Seek Help?
If you’ve been trying to conceive for:
🔹 Over 12 months, or
🔹 Over 6 months if you’re 35+
it’s time to speak to a fertility specialist. The earlier you get answers, the sooner you can take control of your path to parenthood.

You are not alone & you are not to blame. Schedule a consultation - infertility is treatable!

➜ Not every egg will fertilize or become an , and that’s completely normal. It’s one reason why starting earlier can improve your chances later on.

Birth Control & Your Future Fertility?

Hormonal birth control, whether it’s the pill, patch, injection, implant, or IUD, Does NOT cause , even if you use it for many years. Once you stop, your body typically resumes its natural cycle within weeks or months. There’s no need to stop using contraception early just because you’re worried about getting pregnant later.

doesn’t decline because of contraception - it declines naturally over time. As you get older, the number and quality of eggs naturally decline. This happens whether you’re on contraception or not - it’s just part of biology.

Not all work the same way or feel the same in your body. The way you respond can depend on the specific type of hormone used. Some help with breakouts, oily skin, or excess hair growth by reducing androgens. Others are better for bloating and water retention. If you’re dealing with low s*x drive or mood changes, switching to a different type may help. And if you prefer fewer hormones, there are progestin-only or hormone-free options too, but unfortunately not always available in Cyprus.
The best birth control is the one that fits your body, your symptoms, and your future plans. Personalized care matters.

Make an appointment to speak with specialist Dr Anastasiadis. The right guidance can make all the difference NOW & for your FUTURE fertility.

Let’s talk about Fertility, Time & Age - because understanding your body empowers you to make the best decisions for YOU.

Fertility does gradually decline with age, starting at around 25, but that doesn’t mean there’s no hope after 35. Far from it. Many women conceive naturally or with the support of assisted reproductive technologies well into their late 30s and even early 40s.

The facts are that in your mid-20s, monthly chances of are around 25–30%. While these odds decrease over time, trying consistently over several months or a year makes a big difference.

As you get older, egg quantity and quality naturally decrease, which is why speaking to a fertility specialist is key:
🔹 After 6 months of trying (if you’re 35+)
🔹 After 12 months (if you’re under 35)

Also consider checking in sooner if you have:
🔹 Irregular or absent periods
🔹 or
🔹 History of
🔹 A desire to plan ahead (e.g., egg freezing)

Tests like and a fertility ultrasound scan (AFC) can give insights into your ovarian reserve, a helpful tool whether you’re ready now or just gathering info for the future.

It is important to remember that & other fertility treatments are there to help you, but they cannot fully “turn back the clock.” The earlier you explore your options, the better chances you have & the more prepared you’ll feel.

Whether you’re actively trying to have a baby or just planning ahead, a conversation with Dr Anastasiadis, as a fertility expert, can bring clarity, confidence & peace of mind.

It’s true that reserve, the number and quality of eggs remaining in the , naturally declines with age. In fact, age is The Most critical factor, particularly when it comes to egg quality. But age isn’t the only factor that matters. While we often hear “biological clock,” there are other influences that can affect your sooner than expected.

▪️ Genetics
Some women are born with fewer eggs or experience a faster decline due to inherited factors.
▪️Autoimmune Conditions
Autoimmune diseases can sometimes cause the body to mistakenly attack the ovaries, impacting egg quantity or function.
▪️Infections
Certain pelvic infections, especially if untreated, can cause inflammation and scarring that may damage the ovaries
▪️ Environmental Exposures
Frequent exposure to harmful chemicals can accelerate ovarian aging.
▪️ Gynecologic Conditions
Certain conditions like can reduce the number of healthy eggs by affecting ovarian tissue.
▪️ Chemotherapy

Age matters the most, but it’s not the only factor in fertility. It is important to understand your personal risks, especially if you’re not ready for kids yet but want to keep your options open.

Talk to a fertility specialist about options - an ultrasound scan and blood test can give insight into your fertility.

Let’s start the conversation early so your future plans stay on track.

Gestational diabetes ( ) can most often develop between weeks 24–28 of , and many moms-to-be don’t notice any symptoms, which is why routine screening is so important!
If you’ve been diagnosed, don’t panic! Here’s what you need to know:

✔️ A simple test can help catch GDM early so you can take the right steps right away - early detection is key.
✔️ Focus on balanced meals (whole grains, lean protein, and fresh veggies) and gentle, regular movement like walking or prenatal yoga.
✔️ Your doctor may recommend checking your blood sugar at home to keep an eye on any spikes - monitoring is important
✔️ With the right support and follow-ups, most moms with GDM go on to have healthy pregnancies and healthy babies!

After birth, blood sugar levels often return to normal, but it’s still important to have follow-up screenings since GDM can increase the risk of type 2 later on.

Good prenatal care isn’t just routine - it’s one of the most important ways to care for your growing baby and yourself.

When it comes to building a family, men’s health plays a big role, too. A simple s***m analysis can give us a clear picture of any potential challenges that might be affecting .

What does a s***m test actually check?

According to WHO criteria:
✔ S***m Count: Ideally above 15 million per ml
✔ Motility: At least 32% of s***m should be actively moving
✔ Morphology: At least 4% should have a normal shape

IF no s***m cells are found (a condition called ***mia), additional tests are needed to figure out if there’s a blockage or a production problem.

How do you prepare for a s***m test? Here’s what you need to know:
➜ Avoid ej*******on for 2–4 days before collecting the sample
➜ Keep the sample close to body temperature
➜ Get it to the lab within 30–60 minutes, or better provide the s***m in the fertility lab

S***m analysis is quick, straightforward, and provides valuable insights for your journey. Identifying potential issues early on can make a huge difference. Both partners have a part to play in optimizing fertility, and being informed is the first step toward effective solutions.
